Londesborough Park Cricket Club 2nd XI v Sheriff Hutton Bridge on Sat 17 May 2014 at 1:30pm

Match report
18 May 2014 : 2nd XI match report vs. SHB II
With summer possibly here (fingers crossed!), The Park's 2nd XI faced a strong Sheriff Hutton Bridge 2nd XI who were in fine form. With a large number of Wembley bound absentees, Park looked to their junior section for support and were not let down. With only three senior players, seven under 16's and Edward Rook returning for his first game in two years, it was not surprising that Park struggled against a side that will undoubtedly be near the top of the league at the end of the season.
Skipper Williamson, to his and everyones amazement, won the toss and surprised the opposition skipper by electing to bat first. This was the end of the good luck run for Park with only a few notable contributions. Opener Ben Shingles played patiently and was only undone by a fine catch from the opposition wicket keeper, for a well made 20. Resistance came in the rejuvenated Rook (it's in his blood), who succumbed to their wicket keepers sledge of "bet you can't hit a six", by hitting a six just over the fielders head towards the pavilion. Park batted through to the 41st over, managing a below par 92, Rook with an unbeaten 30.
After the normal high standard Londesborough tea, and with the Wembley kick off looming, Sheriff Hutton Bridge seemed determined that Park wouldn't miss too much of the football. Park's only success was the wicket of much experienced Crowder, bowled by a beauty from young Jake Hemsworth. Sheriff Hutton Bridge reached their target with no other scares, Cockerill finishing on 46no.
Park should not be too disheartened by the loss and can hold their head up high for the way they stuck at it, even in the face of defeat. At least one Park player went home happy, Edward Rook receiving the Harper's Fish and Chips Man of the Match voucher to add to the family awards collection.
