Not the greatest outcome last weekend for Londesborough Park’s senior teams as insufficient runs from both sides resulted in a brace of defeats.
The Britcom sponsored 1st XI hosted Dringhouses whose skipper called correctly and invited the Park to bat. James Beevers and Ben Shingles (16) departed early but Sam Dodd (22) and Phil Stothard dug in with a watchful partnership of 43. With the score on 70 Chris Evans moved into top gear, bowling Dodd and then dismissing Stothard (25) in quick succession. Thereafter it was pretty much downhill all the way as, despite a defiant 32 from skipper Greg Drewery, the relatively young middle order and tail had no answer to Evans and Michael Kenyon who claimed 8 wickets between them as the Park stuttered to just 118 in the 44th over.
The visitors’ man of the match Evans opened the reply with Andrew Simpson and played a supporting role as the latter blasted his way to an unbeaten 85 off 73 balls which included 15 boundaries and 2 maximums as the Park bowlers failed to make a breakthrough. Less than 25 overs were required by Dringhouses to complete a 10 wicket victory and move to the top of Ebor division 2.

The Red Lion sponsored 2nd XI suffered a similar fate to their 1st XI counterparts when they visited the vast expanse of Castleford CC.
The hosts took full opportunity of their chance to bat first despite a breakthrough by Rich Foster with the score on 38. Solid contributions from Ardash Vani (59), Edward Cole (37) and Nathan Smith (59) saw the score mount to 191 for 4. However Ryan Curtis and Tom Williamson kept the final tally in check as the remaining batsmen could only muster 28 runs between them, the hosts finally being dismissed for 218 in the last over before tea. Curtis suffered a little tap but took 5 for 75 whilst Williamson claimed 3 for 19 from 5 overs.
Two down with just 9 on the board was not the ideal reply but Ed Smith (31) and Williamson (25) took advantage of the huge outfield to keep the Park in the contest. Smith was then done by a shooter and Mark Tissiman’s stay at the crease was curtailed cheaply. Curtis (20) kept Williamson company as the score moved towards 3 figures but both departed on 100. A late flourish from Foster (18) and Chris Barlow (12 no) added a little respectability but the hosts completed a 90 run victory with several overs to spare.
