Clifton Park was the venue for Britcom sponsored Londesborough Park’s 1st XI encounter last Saturday against an in form York side. Vice captain Tom Eagling lead the Park in the absence of skipper Greg Drewery and came off second best at the toss, the hosts electing to field. The Park suffered the loss of 3 early wickets as James Beevers (27) was the only top order batsman to make an impact. Skipper Eagling held the innings together with a good knock of 58 whilst Sam Dodd, Tom Sowersby and Joe Shingles all made it into the teens. The innings was curtailed in the final over before tea with the board displaying a slightly under par score of 172, chief destroyer being Matthew Wright with 4 for 29.
Ben and Joe Shingles combined to claim an early wicket in the York reply and Tom Sowersby castled Toby Cleminson(16) but David Brown (27) and Charlie Robinson (39) fought back until the latter was run out. Ciaran Brooke then ripped out the middle order cheaply to put the Park on the front foot. However keeper Ben Harris, coming in at number 8, had other ideas and produced a match winning innings of 41 not out, aided by Jack Neil who remained unbeaten on 18. The hosts surpassed the Park’s score in the 41st over, assisted by a tally of 18 extras including 12 wides.
A disappointing result which leaves the 1st XI in a rock solid mid table position with work to do to challenge for promotion. This Saturday the Park hit the road for the third weekend in a row as they travel to Yapham. Thanks to The GoodmanhamArms for sponsoring the match ball.

The Red Lion sponsored second team hosted Whitkirk’s 2nd XI in a high scoring encounter played on a pitch which could be best described as a ‘road’. Invited to bat first opener Ian Hodson missed out in the run feast, departing with the score on 25, before a remarkable partnership of 187 ensued. The batsmen entertaining all but the Whitkirk bowlers and fielders were Lucas Stephenson and Eddie Rook. On any other day the latter’s knock of 91 would have earned top billing but youngster Stephenson stole the show with a magnificent maiden century before finally being trapped LBW for 111. Edward Smith maintained the momentum with 35 and a cameo from Mark Tissiman resulted in the Park posting 277 at the tea break.
The Whitkirk openers also made hay as Luke Masey (57)and Stuart Pickles (77) shared in a 1st wicket century partnership before Stephenson had Masey caught by Steve Dawson. Asecond wicket partnership of 114 put the visitors in the driving seat as Craig Shipton (79) filled his boots on the batsman’s paradise. The Park finally made inroads when Steve Mudd dismissed Pickles and Shipton as the visitors ran out of overs. A wicket for skipper Darren Moody at the death atoned for dropped catches as Whitkirk just fell short on 260 for 4.
A welcome haul of 25 points for the Park in advance of this weekend’s fixture against Cawood. The match ball was kindly sponsored by Market Weighton Farm Supplies.
