They say lightening never strikes twice but for one Londesborough Park 2nd XI batsman it certainly did last Saturday when his team hosted Cawood.
The visitors’ decision to bat first failed to pay off as Jack Sowersby dismissed the first four batsmen in a nine over spell of 4 for 9 to reduce the opposition to 34 for 4. A mini revival between Daniel Woodhead and Keith Towndrow (31) was brought to an end with the score on 62 when the Park’s slow bowlers took control. Three wickets each for Steve Mudd and Tom Williamson saw the visitors struggle to 129 all out, despite the best efforts of James Pullein with 30.
The reply from the Red Lion sponsored 2nd XI was emphatic. Openers Ian Hodson and Lucas Stephenson eased the Park to a 10 wicket victory in less than 20 overs but those statistics only tell half the story. Twenty one boundaries including 4 maximums from Stephenson’s bat resulted in him achieving a remarkable score of 100 not out and posting consecutive league centuries. Hodson’s more sedate innings earned him an unbeaten 31.
The successful match ball was generously donated by Hall & Featherstone. This Saturday the twos travel to Dunnington in search of another victory, and another century?

The Britcom sponsored 1st XI made the short journey to Yapham and, despite posting a score of 182, failed to prevent the hosts earning a 5 wicket victory at the death.
The Park started their innings well as 59 from James Beevers and 40 for skipper Greg Drewery saw them handily placed with 100 on the board for the loss of only 2 wickets. However the introduction of Mike Newhouse and Alex Nattrass to the attack resulted in a flurry of wickets until William Stephenson (31) held the tail together through to a tea time score of 182 for 8, Newhouse securing 4 for 39.
Joe Shingles provided the perfect start to the Park’s defence, bowling opener Tom Connell for a single. Ashley Cattle (42) and Martin Pearson (30) steadied the Yapham reply until both were dismissed with the score on 77. Jason Nattrass posted 11 before Joe Shingles intervened for his second wicket and the hosts lost their 5th wicket when Carl Brewer (12) was run out by Will Stephenson. However the Park failed to remove Jack Holman who timed the run chase to perfection as Yapham gained victory with two balls to spare courtesy of Holman’s unbeaten 75.
