Londesborough Park cruised to a comfortable 8 wicket victory against a Heworth second string which is struggling to avoid relegation.
The hosts’ skipper’s decision to bat first backfired as the Shingles brothers dominated with the ball as the Britcom sponsored Park attack restricted the flow of runs throughout the innings whilst claiming wickets at regular intervals. An initial partnership of 24 was broken by Ben who bowled Patrick Slade for 11. The hosts progressed to 49 when Ben struck again to dismiss Dan Davison for 13. Ben and Jack Sowersby removed nos. 4 and 5 in quick succession before Joe had opener Joel Johnson (32) caught behind the sticks by skipper Greg Drewery. Heworth then capitulated, losing 4 further wickets for the addition of just 12 runs, to sink to 75 for 9. A rear guard action from Martin Boothroyd (12 no) and Will Etty (21 no) added some respectability as they managed to occupy the crease for the allotted 45 overs, taking the final score to 109 for 9. Ben Shingles took the bowling honours with 6 for 31 ahead of brother Joe with 2 for 22 whilst Jack Sowersby’s 9 overs cost just 13 runs and James Hanley conceded a mere 15 runs from his 7 overs.
Opener Lucas Stephenson missed out when he was bowled by Matthew Bradshaw but James Beevers and Greg Drewery made light work of chasing down the target. The hosts claimed one further wicket when the skipper was caught for a quick fire 43 but the Park secured a straightforward victory in the 18th over courtesy of Beevers (44 no) and Phil Stothard (11 no).
The 1st XI returns to the Park this weekend for a 1pm start against Pickering whilst the seconds make the short journey to Pocklington. The Heworth match ball was kindly sponsored by the Carpenters Arms.

The Park’s ground looked at its best last Sunday for the annual contest for social willow wielders, the six-a-side competition. Teams progressed through the group stages to the semi-finals and then to the exciting final. Last year's champions looked out of contention when facing a determined effort from the Half Moon Isotopes. However Market Weighton Institute prevailed with the winning boundary coming off the penultimate ball of the afternoon. Following the action Karen Williamson presented the trophies including the John Hall Memorial Shield to Aidan Morrell, the victorious skipper of the Institute side.
Organisers thanked club members for their help through the afternoon but paid a special tribute to first team regulars Ben and Joe Shingles who kept score on the two pitches throughout the day.
