Londesborough Park Cricket Club News story

Match Reports 27th August

29 Aug 2016

Londesborough Park’s penultimate home fixture of the season failed to reach a conclusion when the typical bank holiday weather intervened with the Britcom boys handily placed against Pickering 2nds.

The Park made a sound start with the willow as new openers James Beevers and and James Hanley opened up with a stand of 40 at which point Beevers was trapped LBW for 22.  Hanley moved on to 32 before he departed in similar fashion.  Phil Stothard (11) and skipper for the day Tom Eagling took the score into 3 figures, the later reaching his half century before being skittled by Leslie Welburn for 59.  Ben Shingles chipped in with a handy 25, supported by Michael Drewery with 13, as the hosts posted a very respectable 184 for 9 in 43 overs.  Welburn proved to be Pickering’s most successful bowler with 3 for 41.

The Park’s seam attack of Tom Sowersby and Joe Shingles made early inroads with a wicket apiece as the visitors were reduced to 27 for 2 off 11 overs before significant rain caused the abandonment of the game.

Londesborough maintain their 6th position in Ebor division 2 ahead of their trip to promotion chasing Carlton Towers on Saturday.  Thanks to Market Weighton Mowers for kindly sponsoring the match ball.

Londesborough Park 1st XI 184-9 (T Eagling 59, J Hanley 32, B Shingles 25, L Welburn 3-41) Pickering 2nd XI 27-2 (match abandoned)

The Red Lion sponsored 2nd XI received an unexpected bonus 30 points in the battle to avoid the drop when local rivals Pocklington was unable to raise a 2nd XI and conceded the game which would probably have fallen foul of the weather.

On Sunday 4th September the picturesque Park ground is the location for the 7th annual match for the Mick Neale Memorial Trophy, a fixture between a Londesborough Park XI and a Vixen Radio XI.

In the early years of this challenge match the home side proved too strong for the radio presenters but that changed last year when sports presenter Tom Connell brought his Yapham team to the Park to provide the opposition and they duly lifted the Trophy.  Yapham will again provide a stiff challenge for this year’s fixture which starts at 2.00pm and comprises a 30 over per side contest.

Admission is free, a raffle will be held on the day and refreshments will be available in the pavilion.  All funds raised will provide much needed revenue to keep Vixen101 on the air – all welcome.
