Londesborough Park Cricket Club News story

3rd June Match Reports

05 Jun 2017

The bank holiday Monday’s and last Saturday’s fixtures didn’t prove to be the best for Londesborough Park’s senior sides with no wins out of four!

The Britcom sponsored first team was invited to bat first against Carlton Towers but failed to make any significant impact as they were dismissed in 38 overs for a below par 113. Only Lucas Stephenson (17) managed double figures out of the top seven batsmen. Fortunately an undefeated 39 from Mark Tissiman together with 29 from Tom Williamson prevented a total collapse. James Stephenson dictated with the ball taking 4 for 12 from 11 overs.

Despite an early wicket for Ciaran Brooke the hosts made light work of reaching their target inside 16 overs as opener Louis Ellin carried his bat with 44 and Mark Holmes chipped in with 40. The Park’s other wicket taker was James Beevers with 2 for 21.

Mark Tissiman’s valiant knock earned him the Harpers fish & chips man of the match award and the match ball was kindly sponsored by R Hornsey & Sons.

Londesborough Park 1st XI 113 (M Tissiman 39 no, T Williamson 29, J Stephenson 4-11, Matthew Torn 3-22) Carlton Towers 1st XI 114-3 (L Ellin 44 no, M Holmes 40)

The 1st XI looked to bounce back when they hosted Scarborough last Saturday and put up a better fist with the bat, a first appearance of the season for James Hanley paying dividends as he plundered 75 alongside Charlie Rook (32). However from a position of strength at 115 for 2 the Park failed to capitalise as wickets began to fall at regular intervals. An unbeaten 14 from Tom Sowersby was the only middle and lower order contribution of note as the innings closed on 163 for 9. For the visitors David Snowball and Elliot Cooper returned identical figures of 4 for 41.

The Park initially took the upper hand with two early wickets for Tom Sowersby. However the picture looked a little different 90 runs later as Joe Padmore (47) and Kieran Fenwick (49) turned the contest back in Scarborough’s favour. When the latter was cleaned up by James Beevers, Padmore found another ally in James Bryant who posted a rapid, unbeaten 46 to steer the visitors to a 6 wicket victory.

XYZ Printers generously sponsored the match ball whilst James Hanley earned the Harpers fish and chips man of the match award.

Londesborough Park 1st XI 163-9 (J Hanley 75, C Rook 32, D Snowball 4-41, E Cooper 4-41) Scarborough 2nd XI 168-4 (K Fenwick 49, J Padmore 47, J Bryant 46)

The Red Lion sponsored 2nd XI is finding the going tough at present and gained little comfort from fixtures against Heworth and Whitkirk.

The bank holiday fixture saw the second string match their 1st XI counterparts with the bat, only managing to accumulate 113, principally thanks to a knock of 48 from Sam Dodd. Skipper Ed Smith (19), Alex Barlow (11 no) and extras (13) were the only other double digit contributors. Nagarjun Bhimarjau took the bowling honours for the visitors with 4 for 43.

Time spent in the field was restricted to less than 13 overs as an unbeaten half century from Jonathan Draper, 32 not out from Tom Hodgson and Joel Johnson (30) saw Heworth rattle their way to a 7 wicket success. Despite conceding over half the runs Darren Moody was reward with the three wickets to fall.

The Harpers fish and chips were consumed by Sam Dodd for his man of the match effort with the bat.
Londesborough Park 2nd XI 113 (S Dodd 48, N Bhimarjau 4-43) Heworth 2nd XI 116-3 (J Draper 50 no, T Hodgson 32 no, J Johnson 30, D Moody 3-63)

A trip to Leeds last Saturday also went unrewarded as the hosts dominated with both bat and ball.
Batting first, Whitkirk accumulated 204 for 4 as stalwart Stuart Pickles dominated with 83, supported by Sean Pickles (27) and Alex Gomerson (21). It was not all one way traffic though as the Park claimed 7 wickets, shared between Steve Mudd, Rich Foster, Darren Moody, Matthew Dunn and Ryan Curtis.

The Park’s reply never really got out of first gear as Ashley Ogden blitzed the top order, reducing the score to 25 for 4. A stand of 41 between Darren Moody and Alex Barlow briefly lifted the gloom but when the latter departed Josh Matthews cleaned up the tail to see the visitors all back in the hutch for just 77, almost half of which came from the bat of Moody (36) who hopefully enjoyed his Harpers fish and chips, despite the result.

Whitkirk 2nd XI 204-7 (Stuart Pickles 83, Sean Pickles 27) Londesborough Park 2nd XI 77 (D Moody 36, J Matthews 4-12, A Ogden 3-23)
