17th June Match Reports

20 Jun 2017

The Britcom sponsored 1st XI once again failed to deliver with the bat and suffered a 74 run defeat at the hands of Acomb. The hosts were indebted to opener Leon Sacks who plundered 80 whilst solid contributions from John Askham (22), Dan Watkinson (28), Dan Littlewood (17) and Matthew Williams (28 no) all helped boost the final score to 199 for 7. Star man with the ball for the Park was Ciaran Brooke who produced fine figures of 5 for 36 from 12 overs. Charlie Rook and Tom Williamson claimed the other wickets to fall.

The Park’s response stuttered into life following the early losses of James Beevers, Michael Drewery (12) and skipper Tom Eagling as Charlie Rook produced the only ray of hope with a knock of 53. However when he lost ally Steve Dawson (12) and departed himself it was all one way traffic as the Acomb bowlers took control to dismiss the Park for 125, the honours going to Chris Gartland with 4 for 32 and Adam Stroughair who pouched 3 for 22.

Ciaran Brooke and Charlie Rook shared the Harpers man of the man award and the match ball was generously sponsored by The Griffin, Market Weighton.

Acomb 2nd XI 199-7 (L Sacks 80, M Williams 28 no, D Watkinson 28, C Brooke 5-36) Londesborough Park 1st XI 125 (C Rook 53, C Gartland 4-32, A Stroughair 3-22)

Londesborough Park’s Red Lion sponsored 2nd XI defied the odds last Saturday, securing a winning draw against Malton & Old Malton courtesy of solid contributions from the opening batsmen and a disciplined bowling performance.

Captain on the day Darren Moody, who only had 10 men and some fresh faces at his disposal, lost the toss and sent Lucas Stephenson and Ryan Curtis into battle. This proved to be a wise choice as the pair posted 97 before Stephenson, dealing mostly in boundaries, was caught for a fine 69. Despite the loss of Jacob Todd, Alex Barlow (11) and Moody kept Curtis company until he finally succumbed for 68.  The skipper (30 no) maintained the momentum to see the Park through to tea on 200 for 4.

Alex Varley and the skipper took the new ball and kept the run rate in check whilst taking regular wickets. Varley had the top three back in the sheds with only 32 on the board (which included a smart catch by debutant youngster Robert Thomlinson) and Moody castled Oliver Farrow for 1. The visitors subsequently rallied as Bradley Freer and Nick Lock produced a fifth wicket partnership of 58. The wily Steve Mudd then intervened, bowling Freer for 42. Curtis took over bowling duties at the other end and further wickets saw the Park to the brink of victory with the visitors reduced to 114 for 9. However a stubborn, undefeated last wicket stand of 43 between Steve Oldfield (23 no) and Mark Yates (17 no) denied the Park maximum points.

Ryan Curtis, with two wickets to add to his run haul, was the likely recipient of the Harpers man of the match award whilst the match ball was kindly sponsored by McDonald’s at Shiptonthorpe.

Londesborough Park 2nd XI 200-4 (L Stephenson 69, R Curtis 68, D Moody 30 no) Malton & Old Malton 2nd XI 159-9 (B Freer 42, N Lock 33, A Varley 3-30, S Mudd 3-31)

The Park bowed out of the Readman Trophy at the second stage against Driffield’s 3rd XI. Batting first the Park mustered 121 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs. Openers James Beevers (25) and Lucas Stephenson (30) contributed the bulk of the runs with support from Mark Tissiman and Michael Drewery who both scored 14. Nicky Johnson with 3-24 inflicted the most damage with the ball.
Driffield made a positive start in reply until Darren Moody sent both openers packing and Tom Williamson claimed a brace to leave the contest in the balance. Tissiman and Beevers chipped away with a wicket apiece but an undefeated 34 from Harvey Dixon eased the visitors across the line with 4 balls to spare.

The Star Inn, Sancton sponsored under 9s have been in recent action against Dunnington and Clifton Alliance.

The Dunnington contest saw the visitors post 317-7 with Henry Johnson (20), Travis Greening (18) and Alfie Hodson (17) leading the way. The Park’s habit of bowling wides was again evident but James Fulstraw claimed 2 wickets and Rupert Sawyer took an excellent catch in a good fielding performance from the team. The Park totalled 263-4 in reply, Cameron Hodson top scoring with 19.

Clifton Alliance scored 331-4 courtesy of a fine 32 from Calum Hart and Evan Postill with 16.  Cameron Hodson claimed 2 wickets whilst Will Needler held a good catch on the run. Again the wides were excessive and four dropped catch didn’t assist. Facing the best bowling attack of the season, the Park boys scored 292-4. Only Cameron Hodson made inroads with 21 but Austin Butterly produced some eye catching strokes.
