Londesborough Park Cricket Club News story

29th July Match Reports

31 Jul 2017

Another below par batting performance from Britcom sponsored Londesborough Park’s 1st XI condemned them to defeat against local rivals Yapham last Saturday.

The coin toss resulted in the usual out come and the Park took first knock. The hosts’ opening bowlers Jonathan Flint and Alex Natrass soon had the Park reeling, the top five batsmen back in the hutch with just 26 on the board, skipper Tom Eagling taking the nominal honours of just achieving double figures. A degree of respectability was restored following a sixth wicket partnership of 37 between Ben Lewis (20 and Lucas Stephenson (25). Defiance from the lower order courtesy of Tom Williamson (19) and Joe Shingles (24) utilised the remaining overs but when Joel Taylor became the hosts’ final victim. The Park had only mustered 123, Flint conceding just 14 runs from his 12 overs whilst picking up 3 wickets.

Ciaran Brooke did his best to prolong the Yapham innings with 3 wickets, but a half century from Ashley Cattle saw the hosts to a comfortable 6 wicket victory in the 33rd over.

No stand out performers with salt and vinegar in hand to claim the Harpers man of the match. The Park remain 17 points above the drop zone and will hope to extend that margin at Scarborough this Saturday.

The Red Lion sponsored 2nd XI was finally back in action last week in a home fixture against Clifton Alliance in a contest which pretty much mirrored the first eleven’s.

Invited to bat first the Park found themselves four down with 24 on the board as Rory Stephenson, the returning Ian Hodson, Ed Rook and Ed Smith all failed to reach double figures. Mark Tissiman (19) and Darren Moody (23) provided some stability with a 5th wicket stand of 39 but there was no wagging tail as the innings ground to a halt on 99 for 9, bolstered by 21 extras.

The Clifton response was short and sweet as the six Park bowlers utilised failed to make a breakthrough, openers Nicholas Hindle (35 no) and Ryan Partington (52 no) both carrying their bats to secure a 10 wicket victory for the visitors.

Thanks to Hall & Featherstone for kindly sponsoring the match ball. The second team’s task doesn’t get any easier with the visit of third placed Whitkirk this weekend.
