Bowlers dominated a low scoring encounter between Britcom sponsored Londesborough Park and Dunnington at the Park last Saturday, the hosts holding their nerve to record consecutive victories and move up to 6th place in Ebor Division 2.
A rare success with the toss resulted in skipper Tom Eagling electing to field first, a decision which was vindicated when Ciaran Brooke disturbed the timbers of opposing captain Josh Tattersall with just 6 runs on the board. Joe Shingles then followed up with two quick wickets before the visitors engineered their biggest partnership of the innings, Daniel Andrew (21) and Stephen Wilson sharing in a stand of 32 until Darren Moody ended Andrew’s stay at the crease and immediately trapped Alex Wilson LBW, reducing Dunnington to 47 for 5. Further damage was inflicted by Tom Williamson who claimed a brace before Stephen Wilson and Sam Tattersall dug in for a while, adding 25 before Shingles finally broke Wilson’s resistance and then mopped up the tail with Brooke, leaving the Park requiring a modest 95 for victory.
The loss of James Hanley without troubling the scorers was not the ideal start to the run chase and a mere single from Ben Lewis didn’t help the cause. James Beevers and Eagling stopped the rot with a partnership of 36 before the skipper departed and Beevers fell to a return catch by Josh Tattersall just short of a half century. With just a dozen needed for victory the alarm bells sounded as the Park lost three wickets without addition to the score. However Williamson and Shingles remained focussed to secure the win by three wickets.
Beevers with the bat and Shingles with the ball shared the Harpers fish and chips man of the match award and the match ball was kindly sponsored by Laverack's Butchers. The Park hit the road this weekend with a trip to Hemingbrough.
Dunnington 2nd XI 94 (S Wilson 30, J Shingles 4-12) Londesborough Park 1st XI 95-7 (J Beevers 47, J Tattersall 4-31)
Due to an inordinate amount of players being unavailable for selection, the Red Lion sponsored 2nd XI had to concede its fixture against Castleford.
Londesborough Park’s annual Community Six-a-Side cricket competition for the John Hall Memorial Shield takes place this Sunday, 20th August. Two pitches will be utilised for the group matches with the semi-finals and final planned for the Peter Milne Pavilion side of the ground. The team representing the Market Weighton Institute will be seeking a hat-trick of wins, having been pushed all the way in last year's final by The Half Moon Isotopes in a really entertaining conclusion. The Bay Horse Bandits make their debut in the competition this year and could well spring a surprise. The fun starts at 11.00am on both pitches and usual refreshments are available for all.
