The Britcom sponsored Londesborough Park 1st XI made its first trip
to Hemingbrough last Saturday and came away with a good points haul
following a tight finish which could have gone either way.
The
hosts’ skipper Matty Clark decided to bat on a decent looking track but
opener Matthew Milburn soon rejoined him in the pavilion, trapped LBW by
Ciaran Brooke for 8. Stand in keeper Lucas Stephenson claimed a
stumping off Tom Williamson’s bowling to dismiss Glen Crouch for 5 and
the hosts’ middle order had no answer to James Beevers who finished with
amazing figures of 5 for 13 from 12 overs, including 6 maidens, and
took the prized wicket of opener Tom Collins (69) who held the innings
together. However, just as the Park envisaged a low score to overhaul
the Hemingbrough tail wagged with devastating effect, Paul Smales adding
an unbeaten 44 with support from Ricky Noble (17) as the total reached a
respectable 172 at the tea interval.
James Hanley’s recent form
with the bat didn’t improve as he encountered an early appointment with
the pavilion but solid contributions from Beevers (26), Ben Lewis (32),
skipper Tom Eagling (24) and Stephenson (36) eased the Park towards
their target. However the remaining batters couldn’t put together a
match winning partnership, despite 13 from Joe Shingles, and ultimately
it was left to Williamson and Brooke to ensure the draw with 10 runs
required for victory but no one left in the sheds.
James Beevers
tucked in to the The Harpers man of the match supper and the match ball
was kindly sponsored by Mr & Mrs Appleyard. The Park remain sixth
in Ebor division 2 with three games remaining, the first being a home
fixture against Acomb this Saturday, commencing at 1pm.

The relegation trap door finally closed on the Red Lion
sponsored 2nd XI as the 10 men put up a spirited display against
Heslington’s first string but fell to a six wicket defeat.
The
Park’s skipper Ed Smith chose to bat first and made a promising start
with fellow opener Jacob Todd, posting 54 before Smith became the first
of Pankaj Saini’s three wickets. Sam Dodd chipped in with 16 and Todd
top scored with 41 as the Park passed the 100 mark. However an
inexperienced lower order struggled to supplement the total with only
stalwart Rich Foster (15) and Billy Spruyt (13) making inroads, the
innings curtailing on 145 in the 43rd over.
Rich Foster proved to
be the mainstay of the Park’s bowling attack, taking 3 for 37 from his
12 overs, to provide a glimmer of hope but opener William Phelps carried
his bat for an unbeaten 63 and, despite a wicket for Matthew Dunn, the
visitors cruised to victory with 13 overs to spare.
Hopefully the
2nd XI will re-group next season in a lower division with a more
regular group of players. Last weekend’s contenders for the Harpers man
of the match were Jacob Todd and Rich Foster whilst Kevin Parsons
generously sponsored the match ball. The twos face a trip to Malton
this weekend.

Londesborough
Park held its annual Community Six-a-Side cricket competition on last
Sunday. Teams battled through the group stages and two semi-finals,
with the final played in front of the Peter Milne Pavilion. The teams
competing in the final were a repeat of last year with The Market
Weighton Institute prevailing by twenty runs against The Half Moon
Isotopes to secure a hat-trick of wins in the competition.
Karen
Williamson presented The John Hall Memorial Trophy to the jubilant
Institute outfit and organiser Phil High thanked everyone who had made
the day such a success. Once again the event was blessed with a dry,
sunny day and all the teams expressing their delight at the quality of
the pitches provided.
