The Londesborough Park 1st XI, sponsored by Britcom International
Ltd, faced a difficult task last Saturday when they travelled to table
toppers Carlton Towers. The basic details of the encounter were that
the Park won the toss but nothing else. Carlton totalled 209 for 9 in
their 45 overs, a scoreline dominated by Mark Holmes with 63 and Lister
who made an unbeaten 26.
Lucas Stephenson has found good form
with the bat as the end of the season approaches. He top scored for the
Park with 54 whilst Michael Drewery struck 36 and Sam Dodd made 30.
Unfortunately the divisional champions held the upper hand and the Park
fell to defeat in the 43rd over.
Another half century for
Stephenson earned him the Harpers fish and chips man of the match award.
The seaside beckons this weekend as the 1st XI completes its fixtures
at Bridlington.

Another bad at the office for the Red Lion sponsored 2nd XI when they entertained Heworth’s second string last Saturday.
At
least skipper Ed Smith had the novelty of 11 men at his disposal
including opening batsman John Williamson who tucked himself into the
slips when the visitors were asked to bat first. A useful first wicket
partnership of 57 between Kewell Ford and Matthew Huffer saw Heworth off
to a good start before Matthew Dunn and Darren Moody began to make
inroads for the Park with two wickets apiece. Eddie Rook captured a
rare wicket to reduce Heworth to 93 for 5 and the Park bowlers kept
chipping away as Steve Mudd, Alex Barlow and Thomas Burton all claimed
entries in the wickets column, the Park taking 8 catches to restrict the
visitors to 159 for 9 at the tea interval.
The Park’s response
with the bat epitomized the problems this season with Eddie Rook (20),
John Williamson (19) and Alex Barlow (15) being the only batsmen to
break into double figures as Steve Buckton, who took 4 for 25, and Alex
Stone with 3 for 3 wrapped up a comfortable victory for the visitors,
the Park all out for 76.
No stand out performance for the Harpers
man of the match last week; hopefully someone will shine in the final
encounter of the season this Saturday when the 2nd XI bows out at home
to Drax. Thanks to Dave Brewer Plumbing for sponsorship of the match
ball.
