1st Team Match Report 12th May

14 May 2018

The game started with a minutes silence in honour of a Hemingbrough club member (Dave Ward) who sadly passed away the week before.

Heminbrough set off like a train, making great use of a very short boundary and rapid outfield. A change to spin bowling managed to peg them back and this pressure brought wickets at a fairly regular interval from that point onwards. Overall, after the first 15 overs, keeping them to 200 was pretty respectable but still a big task at hand.

LPCC set off really well with Beevers and new man Tom Jennings reaching a second consecutive 50 partnership despite a thigh injury for Jennings. After drinks, the dismissed Beevers went in as a runner for Jennings and the rate started to pick up again only for some 'runner based' confusion resulting in Jennings being dismissed after another great knock. Despite some flurries of runs causing skipper Mike Drewery to excitedly think the win was still on the cards, the middle order failed to stay in long enough to really trouble Hemingbrough's 200 and left it to the ever stoic Tom Williamson and Joe Shingles to bat the last few overs for a fairly profitable draw (12 points), despite Tom being temporarily incapacitated by a beamer in the final over.

Hemingbrough 200-8. Elliott Precious 57, John Cockerill 63, Scott Hardwick 3-48.

LPCC 156-8. Tom Jennings 58, Matthew Clark 4-30.
