Londesborough Park Cricket Club News story

Match reports week ending 20th May

20 May 2018

Londesborough Park first XI, sponsored by Britcom International Ltd, hosted Acomb II on Saturday, on a perfect day for playing cricket. The home side won the toss and invited Acomb to bat. The visitors started solidly, the opening pair looking like they were set for the day, until John Askham was dismissed in the 13th over. Six more wickets eventually fell, but not until Andrew Tute (68) and Matthew Williams (48) had steadied the ship, including a third wicket stand of 65. Acomb eventually finished on a challenging 193 for 7.

After another excellent tea taken in the Peter Milne Pavilion, the two Park openers were unable to repeat their recent good form and the home team found themselves struggling on 16 for 2. Enter Tom Eagling, for his first game of the season and having recently returned from honeymoon in Thailand. He hit form immediately though, and the score quickly accelerated with his contribution of 10 fours and 8 sixes. Tom was ably supported by four batsmen along the way, until he steered the Park home for a worthy victory in the 37th over and having posted his first century of the season (117 no). Brad Keel was the pick of the Acomb bowlers with 3-23.

The match ball was kindly sponsored by Bengal Brasserie, and the Harper’s Man of the match was, unsurprisingly, Tom Eagling.

Acomb: 193-7. Andrew Tute 68, Matthew Williams 48.

LPCC: 197 -5. Tom Eagling 117 no, Brad Keel 3-23

Londesborough second XI, sponsored by The Red Lion Market Weighton, were gifted 30 points on Saturday, and a chance to watch the Royal Wedding instead, as Cawood were unable to raise a team due to an unfortunately timed stag weekend taking away a number of their players.

The Wednesday night Foss Evening team were pitted against Stamford Bridge this week. Stamford batted first and laboured against the accurate Londesborough bowling attack. The Park took an early wicket with James Beevers removing Lawson with only 1 run on the board. The second wicket came not long after with a well taken catch by Joel Taylor, the score now 13-2. Stamford rallied, with Pimlott making 37 and Stevens 20 not out, and finished 85 for 4 after 16 overs.

Edward Rook and Lucas Stephenson started well, quickly chasing down the target until Rook was bowled by Healey for 22. The second wicket came quickly making the score 40 for 2. Michael Drewery and Lucas Stephenson (35 no) scored quickly and secured the winning runs in the 13th over.

Stamford Bridge- 85-3 (O Pimlott 37, T Stevens 20 no; M Beckett 1-6) by 8 wickets

Londesborough Park- 89-2 (L Stephenson 35 no, E Rook 22; J Beevers 2-14).

The under 13s’ season commenced with an away fixture against Dringhouses. The team bowled and fielded well to restrict the opposition to 63 for 8. Notable contributions came from Tom Dicconson with 2 for 7 and Joe Colley who took 2 for 4. Four bowlers took a wicket apiece. The park lost Freddy Parsonage early in their response before Harvey Laverack and Olly Rook proceeded to bat with maturity and class to knock the runs off in the 13th over, Rook finishing unbeaten on 25 and Laverack on 24 not out.

The next fixture at Clifton Alliance was a cup and league game rolled into one. Skipper Toby Williamson was back to lead the team which was sporting its new Star@Sancton sponsored shirts and, having won the toss, he put Clifton into bat. An excellent bowling and fielding performance with good catching restricted the hosts to 74 in their 20 overs. Olly Rook with 2 for 7 from four overs was the pick of bowlers. A captain’s knock from Williamson with 30 (retired) and contributions from the lower order enabled the Park to knock the required runs off with 2 overs to spare. Two great wins against historically strong opposition bodes well for the season.

The under 9’s travelled to Acomb to play their second match of the season on Wednesday. The eight-member team, captained by William Needler this week, all looked fantastic in their new cricket tops sponsored by the Star @ Sancton. The home team won the toss and opted to take the field. For LPCC the runs quickly accumulated with notable scores coming from Giles Rowley, Sebastian Staal and Harry Rook. After the 16 overs LPCC had scored a total of 136 with a loss of only one wicket, the result of a runout.

When LPCC took the field, Mia Aconley opened the bowling with an impressive maiden and bowled a further wicket maiden for her final over. Some tight bowling also came from Toby Mackenzie and Sebastian Staal, but the best bowling came from the youngest member of the team on his seasonal debut. Harry Rook bowled a blistering two overs taking two wickets for no runs with more wickets in the offing if the pitch had been a little truer. As a result, combining the bowling with some superb team fielding Acomb were restricted to 53 for 6 wickets and secured a win for LPCC.

A great evening and continuation of the excellent form that all the squad has shown so far this season.
