Londesborough Park first XI travelled to York III this week
and were invited to bat first. Tom Jennings and James Beevers looked
comfortable in the early overs, however the departure of James for 18 and the
introduction of the bowling of Graham MacFall (4-21) slowed the run rate. MacFall
was well supported by Tom Backhouse (4-15) and the rest of the York bowlers
bowled tightly. There was a much-needed flurry of runs for the eighth wicket
between Scott Hardwick (18) and Steve Dawson, but the Park eventually stalled on
83 all out.
The first innings score always looked like it would be
difficult to defend, but Londesborough were encouraged by a couple of early
wickets. The pick of Park’s bowlers was Tom Sowersby (2-13) but York eventually
crossed the line with the loss of 4 wickets and the help of Toby Cleminson’s 34
not out.
LPCC: 83-10 (G MacFall 4-21, T Backhouse 4-15)
York III: 87-4 (T Cleminson 34*, T Sowersby 2-13)
The Drax II team against Londesborough’s second XI at the
Park on Saturday included many juniors. Unfortunately, the home
team’s bowling proved much too strong for them and Drax II were dismissed for
39. Joel Taylor bagged 5 wickets for only 15 runs, Darren Moody bowled accurately,
and on his debut Chris Roper claimed a very respectable 2-1 off 1.3 overs.
Londesborough Park took to the field
immediately and Phil Jennings (21*) and John Coote (15*) steered the Park home
without giving a chance. The game was over at 2.50pm, the second XI claimed
another 30 points, and an excellent tea was enjoyed by all.
Drax: 39-10 (J Taylor 5-15, C Roper 2-1)
LPCC: 41-0 (P Jennings 21*, J Coote 15*)

The Wednesday night Foss Evening team entertained Aviva
Vikings II this week. Londesborough bowled and fielded particularly well,
dismissing Aviva with only 62 runs on the board. Joel
Taylor took 4-4, including a hat-trick, and Mike Drewery took 2-4. There were
also debut wickets for Ed Houlton and youngster Sam Young. The bowlers were
supported by some excellent catching from Mike Drewery, Ed Houlton and Charles
Rook. The pick of the Aviva batsmen were Nasir Mahmood (12) and skipper Charlie
Linfoot-King (15). The result was never in doubt however as Lucas Stephenson’s
49 not out saw Park cruise home for a ten-wicket victory with several overs to
spare.
