Londesborough Park first XI travelled to Acomb on Saturday and
invited the home side to bat first on a ground that was clearly suffering badly
from the prolonged dry spell. Acomb started at a steady run rate of 2 an over;
a result of tight bowling from Tom Sowersby and Joe Shingles. The first wicket
fell in the 12th over but Londesborough had to wait until the 21st
for their next victim, a wicket for Martin Pearson (2-17). A quick flurry of
more wickets saw the home team reduced to 74-5, but a sixth wicket partnership
of 56 between Mark Williamson (24) and Joe Burton (30) restored Acomb’s hope,
until Scott Hardwick took the wicket of Williamson. James Beevers (3-26), and
the introduction of Tom Williamson (3-6) in the 39th over brought more
quick wickets and Acomb succumbed for 146 in the last over.
Londesborough’s reply started solidly with a first wicket stand of
88 between Tom Jennings (43) and James Beevers (55). James Hanley (21*) and
Martin Pearson (20) added the majority of the remaining runs required and
Londesborough won comfortably, losing just three wickets and with 8 overs to
spare.
The man of the match award went to James Beevers.
Acomb: 146-10 (A Ingle 20, P Hemingway 26, M Williamson 24, J
Burton 30, J Beevers 3-26, T Williamson 3-6, M Pearson 2-17)
Londesborough: 147-3 (T Jennings 43, J Beevers 55, J Hanley 21*, M
Pearson 20)
The second XI also secured the full 30 points against 10-man
Cawood on Saturday. Cawood were restricted to 90 runs courtesy of wickets from
Joel Taylor (2-11), Chris Roper (3-32) and Steve Mudd (3-18). Only Neil Reader
(30) made a significant contribution to the score. Londesborough didn’t make it
easy though and found themselves on 33-3 during their reply. The introduction
of Simon Dodd (38*) to support Ian Hodson (25*) brought the match back under
control and Londesborough secured the winning runs with no further wickets
being lost. Debutant youngster Toby Williamson was entrusted with the
wicket-keeping for Londesborough Park and rose to the challenge admirably,
securing his first senior wicket with a well-timed stumping. The match was
played in a great spirit and credit goes to Cawood for their determination to play
despite their reduced numbers.
The man of the match award went to Simon Dodd.

The Wednesday night Foss Evening League team suffered their third
loss of the season this week, against title rivals Bolton Percy. Bolton Percy batted first and put on 44 for the first wicket before
Matthew Howden (15) was dismissed by Scott Hardwick (2-27). Matthew Riley top
scored with 27 but five quick wickets fell before Sammy Clews (26) pushed the
total to a modest 109-9. James Beevers was the pick of the Londesborough
bowlers with 3-25, and Greg Drewery secured 3 stumpings. Youngster Oliver Rook
(1-14) made his debut for Londesborough Park and enjoyed success in the field,
taking a wicket with his first senior over and followed this up with a direct
hit run-out from the boundary. Fellow youngster Sam Young also took two wickets
for 11 runs in his spell of 3 overs.
The Park’s reply started quickly as openers Greg Drewery (24) and James Beevers
(30) moved the score to 40 rapidly. Once Greg Drewery was dismissed Beevers
continued to hold the innings together but without any other major contributors
the Park’s challenge fizzled out with only 79 runs on the board. Tom Anderson
(4-12) and Isaac Green (3-21) led the way for Bolton’s win by 30 runs.
