Londesborough Park Cricket Club News story

Match Reports w/e 15th July

15 Jul 2018

Londesborough Park first X1 travelled to Pickering on Saturday and chose to bat first. At 34 for 3 it looked like an early tea would be taken, but Lucas Stephenson entered the fray to support Tom Jennings (26) and the tide turned in the favour of Londesborough. When Tom departed, Lucas was joined by Michael Drewery (33) and a partnership of 72 followed before Michael was bowled. Lucas went on to score an impressive 123 from 94 balls before being caught, with the score sitting on 230 for 9. Joe Shingles and Ciaran Brook then steered the Park to a hefty final total of 250. The pick of the Pickering bowling came from James Boyes (5-50).

The Pickering reply started strongly with 62 being posted before the first wicket fell, courtesy of a partnership between Owen Cowton (25) and Leslie Welburn (40). Two more quick wickets came Londesborough’s way, but Pickering steadied the ship again. Neil Cowton (37*) kept the scoreboard ticking over, but after losing wickets late on Pickering settled for the draw and ended on 196-9, Londesborough unable to pick up the vital last wicket, but nevertheless coming away with a high scoring draw. Ciaran Brooke (4-28) enjoyed the majority of success with the ball.

Harper’s Man of the Match was awarded to Lucas Stephenson.

Londesborough: 250-9 (T Jennings 26, L Stephenson 123, M Drewery 33, J Boyes 5-50)

Pickering: 196-9 (O Cowton 25, L Welburn 40, N Cowton 37*, C Brooke 4-28)

The second X1 hosted North Cave and managed to restrict the visitors to 168 when they batted first. John Buttle (32), Charles Cocking (52), Frazer Welsh (40) and Steve Mudd (5-46) were the stars of the first innings.

Londesborough’s success seemed assured as Joel Taylor (51) and John Coote (43) put on 95 for the first wicket. North Cave had different ideas however and quickly reduced the Park to 113-4. Things looked up slightly with a fifth wicket stand of 30 between Simon Dodd and Ian Hodson, but wickets then fell cheaply again and Londesborough were eventually dismissed for 152. John Buttle took the bowling honours with 3-16.

Harper’s Man of the Match was awarded to Joel Taylor.

North Cave: 168-10 (J Buttle 32, C Cocking 52, F Welsh 40, S Mudd 5-46)

Londesborough: 152-10 (J Taylor 51, J Coote 43, C Hewson 3-60, J Buttle 3-16)
