LPCC U9s reach York Junior League Finals Day

09 Jul 2018

Remaining unbeaten throughout a great season, the Londesborough Park U9 team secured their place in the finals day at Heworth on 8th July. Although the competition was stiff, expectations were high. Londesborough were drawn against Clifton Alliance; the other semi-final being between York and Yapham. Clifton won the toss and took the field and it became obvious very quickly that they were a well drilled team with some very straight bowling. Londesborough scored a respectable 69 runs but the deduction of runs for the 9 wickets lost reduced this to 34. Londesborough didn’t give up when they took to the field and, led by Toby Mackenzie, bowled and fielded their best of the season. Great catches from Oli McCollum and James Fulstaw and bowling from Mia Aconley, Harry Rook, Toby Mackenzie and Rupert Sawyer kept Clifton under control but sadly it was not enough and LPCC lost by just ten runs. Clifton played York in the final, who they beat to take the trophy.

Londesborough played for third and fourth place against Yapham. Whilst the first loss of the season still stung, the team went in to bat and performed brilliantly, knocking the ball around with ease. Great scores from Oli McCollum (30) and Seb Staal (23) helped LPCC reach a total of 124 with a loss of just five wickets. A tough score to beat and made harder for Yapham by excellent bowling again from the Londesborough youngsters. The result was a wonderful win to finish the competitive season and a bronze medal to take home.

Despite the incredibly close loss against Clifton, the Londesborough under 9’s squad has had a great season and they should all be proud of what they have achieved. Congratulations go to the entire squad comprising of Mia Aconley, Toby Mackenzie, Rupert Sawyer, James Fulstaw, William Needler, Sebastian Staal, Austen Butterley, Jack Dicconson. Oli McCollum, Harry Rook. Edward Preece, Tom Wood, Giles Rowley and Henry Connolly.

Londesborough Park would like to thank the sponsor of their junior section, the Star Inn at Sancton.
