Londesborough Park 1st XI faced Dunnington away
on Saturday. After a brief shower the match started on time, with Londesborough
offered first use of the pitch after losing the toss. A solid platform was
built as Tom Jennings and James Beevers put on a partnership of 51 before James
was caught on 34. Martin Pearson joined Tom at the crease and another excellent
partnership of 81 ensued, taking the Park to 132-2 before Martin fell on 43.
Tom Jennings faltered shortly afterwards, being agonisingly run out on 49, but
Tom Eagling’s quick 31 saw the Park to 194 before they were bowled out in the
43rd over. Youngster Toby Williamson carried his bat with a quick 8
not out at the end. The pick of Dunnington’s bowlers were Harry Claxton (4-50)
and Tom Wilson (2-34). Dropped catches haunted Dunnington’s fielding, but they
took their opportunities with three run outs as the Park went for quick
singles towards the end of the innings.
Dunnington’s response faltered early as they found themselves on
0-1 after 2 balls, followed quickly to 4-3 in the fourth over. Luck wasn’t on
their side as Jonny Andrew was run out when a straight drive from brother Dan was deflected by bowler Tom Sowersby onto the non-striker's stumps. At 18-5 the
result was probably inevitable, but a determined and patient innings from
opener Dan Andrew (75) gave Dunnington a chance of a draw, until Dan fell victim
to one of Tom Jennings’ two catches, bringing the innings to an end in the 39th
over with 120 on the board. Bowling honours went to Tom Sowersby (4-12 in 9
overs) and Scott Hardwick (2-31 in 11 overs), with Martin Pearson, James
Beevers and Jack Sowersby all contributing one each, and Toby Williamson taking
two catches behind the stumps.
LPCC: 194-10 (Tom Jennings 49, James Beevers 34, Martin
Pearson 43, Tom Eagling 31, Harry Claxton 4-50, Tom Wilson 2-34)
Dunnington: 120-10 (Dan Andrew 75, Tom Sowersby 4-12,
Scott Hardwick 2-31)
The Park looked glorious again on Saturday, as Londesborough’s
second team entertained Eastrington, inviting them to bat first. The home side found
success with the ball early on, reducing Eastrington to 39-4, 49-5 and then
74-6. However, Tom Reed (66) and Gary Laverack (58*) put together an excellent
partnership of 82 to restore the innings to 156-7. Darren Moody had an
excellent 12 over spell, taking 5-28, and two wickets for Steve Mudd (2-26) and
Mark Tissiman (2-13) helped bring Eastrington’s innings to an end at 175 in the
37th over.
Londesborough’s reply started well with an opening
partnership of 39 between Phil Jennings and Ian Hodson (44) before Phil
faltered. Ian was eventually run out by an excellent pick-up and throw by
Michael Chatham. Mark Tissiman (69 no) and Tom Williamson (26) then put another
great partnership of 75 together to more or less see Londesborough over the
line; the innings being finished off emphatically by an impressive six from Eddie
Rook.
Eastrington: 175-10 (Tom reed 66, Gary Laverack 58,
Darren Moody 5-28)
LPCC: 179-5 (Mark Tissiman 69*, Ian Hodson 44, Tom
Williamson 26)
A great weekend for the senior teams with both teams
securing maximum points.
The Wednesday night team’s game against Stamford
Bridge fell foul of the weather again with only six overs bowled before the
match had to be abandoned.
