Londesborough Park 1st XI entertained Wheldrake
on Saturday and invited the visitors to bat first. Tom Sowersby (3-38) got an
early breakthrough to remove their no.2 batsman with only 11 runs on the board,
but a 2nd wicket partnership of 84 between Rich Exley (52) and
Anthony Carter (49) saw the visitors move to 95 without further loss. It took
the introduction of younger brother Jack Sowersby (2-10) to finally dismiss
Carter on 49, quickly followed by another victim. At 103-3 Rich Exley and Ben
Lodge (35) continued to push the innings along, and with the re-introduction of
Tom Sowersby and Martin Pearson (4-31) five more wickets fell before the final
total of 160 was posted.
Londesborough’s reply faltered early with the loss of opener Tom
Jennings, but James Beevers (62) and Martin Pearson (81 no) steered the Park to
a very strong position with an excellent second wicket partnership of 152
before Beevers was dismissed. Lucas Stephenson joined Martin at the crease and
crunched two quick fours to seal the victory for Londesborough with 18 overs to
spare.
Wheldrake: 160-9 (Rich Exley 52, Anthony Carter 49,
Ben Lodge 35, Tom Sowersby 3-38, Martin Pearson 4-31, Jack Sowersby 2-10)
LPCC: 161-2 (James Beevers 62, Martin Pearson 81 not
out)
The second team’s frustrating start to the season,
with one match rained off, one conceded by the opposition, followed by two free
weeks, finally got going again on Saturday. Unfortunately, they were pitted
against top placed Ovington, so with virtually no competitive cricket under
their belts so far this season it was expected to be a challenge. Londesborough
batted first and with the help of Joel Taylor (22), Ian Hodson (15), Edward
Smith (27) and Mark Tissiman (23) they posted a score of 117 before being
dismissed in the 43rd over. Dom Kitching (4-15), Neil Metcalfe
(2-21) and Benjamin Busby (3-23) took the wickets for Ovington.
Ovington’s win was never really in doubt as they eased
across the line having lost only 2 wickets, keeping their perfect start to the
season going. Thomas Cookson (54) got the lion’s share of the runs, but a
highlight for the Park was a wicket for youngster Ollie Rook (1-30). The second
wicket went to Henry Smith (1-19), aided by a catch from his Dad.
LPCC: 117-10 (Joel Taylor 22, Edward Smith 27, Mark
Tissiman 23, Dom Kitching 4-15, Neil Metcalfe 2-21, Benjamin Busby 3-23)
Ovington: 118-2 (Thomas Eckersley 54)
The Wednesday night team were just on the wrong side
of a close encounter with Heworth Colts. Londesborough posted a score of 106-6
in their 18 overs, but Heworth Colts secured the winning runs with just five
balls left of their innings, finishing on 108-7.
Londesborough Park would like to thank their team sponsors Britcom
International, the Red Lion, and Michael Roe Motor Engineer, and match ball sponsors
Hagston Butchers, M.W. Pet Shop and Flower Merchant Sally May.
