Both Londesborough Park Saturday teams managed to
complete their matches at the weekend, despite a very unfavourable weather
forecast. The 1st XI travelled to Hemingbrough and batted first. The
Park got off to a great start with 51 on the board before the first wicket was
lost; but runs then proved hard to come by and the final score was kept to
155-8, with Jamie Pickles taking 4 wickets in his 10 over spell. Tom Jennings
(24), James Beevers (28) and youngster Toby Williamson (28no) were the main
contributors with the bat.
In their reply Hemingbrough faltered early, finding
themselves on 7-1 thanks to an early LBW by Jack Sowersby (2-34). Things then
started to turn in Hemingbrough’s favour and whilst the introduction of Lucas
Stephenson (3-39) brought valuable wickets, they eventually hit the winnings
runs in the 39th over, Jamie Pickles continuing his good day with 40
runs.
LPCC: 155-8 (Tom Jennings 24, James Beevers 28, Toby
Williamson 28no, Jamie Pickles 4-30)
Hemingbrough: 159-7 (Jamie Pickles 40, Robert Scarr
22, Glen Crouch 24, Jack Sowersby 2-34, Lucas Stephenson 3-39)
The second team entertained league leaders Drax I at
home, who elected to bat first having won the toss. Early wickets for Matthew
Dunn (4-43) saw the visitors on 5-2, and they then faltered further to 35-3. But
a fourth wicket stand of 128 between Luke Edwards (39) and Oliver Ounsley (123)
turned the match in Drax’s favour. Youngster Oliver Rook (2-87) eventually took
the wicket of Luke Edwards, combining with keeper John Coote for one of his two
catches behind the stumps, but it was the ton from Ounsley that changed the game,
as Drax finally set a very challenging target of 256-8 to chase.
Londesborough’s reply was looking good with a first
wicket partnership of 54 between Phil Jennings and Ian Hodson, until Phil fell
to a caught & bowled by Steven Smith (3-31). Hodson went on to score a
valuable 71, and Chris Roper contributed 20 not out before the Park ran out of overs
with 136-4 on the board. In the circumstances a good losing draw against a
strong Drax side, and 7 points gained to maintain Londesborough’s third place position.
The Wednesday night team were pitted against league
leaders Stamford Bridge in the final encounter of the season. Stamford Bridge
posted a competitive score of 129-1 in their 18 overs, thanks to Ollie Pimlett
(52no) and Liam Easton (49no). Londesborough’s reply started well with a
partnership of 76 between James Beevers and Lucas Stephenson, before James was
dismissed on 24. Lucas was joined by Martin Pearson and the pair saw
Londesborough over the line with four balls to spare, Lucas on an unbeaten 79
and Martin unbeaten on 26. A vital 3 points were gained to end the season in
fine style and ensure division 3 cricket again next season.
Londesborough Park would like to thank this week’s match
ball sponsors The Gun Room, Keith Price, and the Gelato Lounge.
