The weather gods smiled on
Londesborough Park on Sunday 18th August as a mixture of social and weekend
cricketers combined to compete for The John Hall Memorial Shield.
The match took the form of a twenty
over-a-side challenge between Market Weighton Institute (captain Aiden Morrell)
and The Isotopes (captain Alistair Woods).
The day commemorated the well-respected
former first team skipper, groundsman and club stalwart.
Woodsie won the toss and had no
hesitation in inserting the opposition and The Institute were bowled out for
111 despite a cameo from former Londesborough player Darren Moody who had
posted a hard hitting 34 not out when he ran out of partners.
Another former Londesborough player,
Greg Drewery, who plays for Clifton Alliance in the Yorkshire Premier League
North, 33 (retired) anchored the reply and the Isotopes strolled to an eight-wicket
victory with four overs to spare.
The trophy was presented by four
times Kiplingcotes Derby winner John Thirsk who played at The Park for many
years with John Hall.
A delighted Alistair Woods thanked
everyone who had made the day possible and commented how pleasing it was to
wrestle the trophy away from The Institute after years of finishing runners up
against them in the annual Six-a-Side Competition.
