Whilst Londesborough 1st team’s result
against Osbaldwick didn’t go in their favour on Saturday, they did secure the
four points they needed to ensure promotion. Londesborough batted first and set
Osbaldwick a target of 151 to chase. The season continued to go well for James Beevers
(20) and Martin Pearson (40) who’s runs took them both past the 500 total for
the season; an excellent achievement. Joel Taylor entered the field when
Londesborough were 77-4 and went on to post a much-needed 47 runs to help take
the score beyond 150, securing 3 valuable batting points. Matthew Hattee was the pick of
the bowlers with 3-19.
Londesborough’s defence started in the best possible
way as Tom Sowersby (2-31) took a wicket with his very first ball, caught behind
by keeper Taylor. Unfortunately, wickets proved hard to come by after that, but
Tom did secure another wicket to gain the final point needed by clean bowling
his second victim. Adam Burton (65*) and Matthew Hattee (59*) took Osbaldwick over
the winning line however with a third wicket partnership of 104.
An excellent season for the Park’s first team; great
team performances being rewarded with a well-deserved promotion to Division 1
for next season.
LPCC: 151-9 (Joel Taylor 47, Matthew Hattee 3-19)
Osbaldwick: 152-2 (Adam Burton 65*, Matthew Hattee
59*, Tom Sowersby 2-31)
Londesborough’s second team had a bad day at the
office when they hosted North Cave on Saturday. North Cave batted first and amassed
an impressive 217-6 in their allotted overs, Declan Pearson falling just short
of a century with 91* and Charles Cockin (36) and Damien Sharp (21*) also
contributing. Chris Roper (3-53) and Scott Coates (3-30) picked up the wickets.
Londesborough’s reply didn’t go to plan as they found themselves
all out on 61. Edward Rook (16) and Rob Burton (10) were the only Londesborough
batsmen to make double figures, as Michael Stellings’ haul of 6-15 turned the
game firmly in North Cave’s favour. Thanks go to Mike Coates from Eastrington for
umpiring the game.
Whilst the result didn’t go in the Park’s favour, they
are guaranteed to finish in third place in Ebor 4; an excellent team achievement
by everyone involved.
North Cave: 217-6 (Declan Pearson 91*, Charles Cockin
36, Damien Sharp 21*, Chris Roper 3-53, Scott Coates 3-30)
LPCC II: 61-10 (Michael Stellings 6-15)
