Londesborough Park Cricket Club News story

Match Reports 14th September

15 Sep 2019

As another season drew to a close, Londesborough Park 1st team entertained Ebor 2 champions Bridlington I on Saturday. Bridlington batted first and got off to a shaky start as Londesborough picked up their first wicket with just 5 runs on the board, courtesy of Martin Pearson (2-42). Bridlington then put together two consecutive partnerships of over 50 to swing the game back in their favour. From the 27th over wickets came regularly though, thanks in the main to Scott Hardwick’s excellent spell of 10 overs which returned six wickets for just 45 runs. Runs also came kept coming too however, and Bridlington gathered a total of 204 before James Beevers (2-41) took the last wicket with one ball of the innings remaining.

Londesborough’s reply never really got going as the top order batsmen were lost cheaply. At 55-8 Scott Hardwick entered the fray and continued his successful day, top scoring with 33, supported by Tom Sowersby in an entertaining partnership that added 45 runs to the score. Ben Traves was the pick of the Bridlington bowlers, taking 6-21 as the Park faltered on 100 all out.

Despite the disappointment of the last game of the season, Londesborough Park 1sts celebrated a successful season with a great team effort gaining them promotion to Division 1 next season.

Bridlington: 204-10 (Sam Wragg 38, John Major 52, Steve Janney 35, Scott Hardwick 6-45)

LPCC: 100-10 (Scott Hardwick 33, Ben Traves 6-21)

Londesborough Park 2nd team travelled to face Drax II and were invited to bat first. Tom Griffiths scored a valuable 20, but the award for batting performance of the day went to captain Edward Smith who scored 93 not out, unfortunately unable to turn it into a well-deserved century as he ran out of partners. Jake Powell (3-37) and Steve Armitage (3-12) took the lion’s share of the Park’s wickets, but not before they had posted 171 runs for Drax to chase.

An excellent bowling and fielding performance by the Park saw Drax dismissed for just 89 runs, securing another 30 points for Londesborough. Matthew Dunn (4-35) took the bowling honours by dismissing the top four batsmen in his 10 over spell, and Henry Smith’s 3-2 and Steve Mudd’s 2-9 finished the job off in impressive style.

Another great season for Londesborough Park II, finishing comfortably in third place behind two very strong teams.

LPCC II: 171-10 (Edward Smith 93no, Tom Griffiths 20, Jake Powell 3-37, Steve Armitage 3-12)

Drax II: 89-10 (Matthew Dunn 4-35, Henry Smith 3-2, Steve Mudd 2-9)

A special thank you must be extended to Malcolm Cartwright and Phil High, who covered the second team umpiring duties, and Will Bell and Cameron Hodson who took on the scoring duties, for their continuous and much-appreciated support throughout the season.

The club would also like to thank their generous sponsors, Vice Presidents, players, officials, volunteers and supporters for their invaluable contribution to a successful and enjoyable season’s cricket.
