Londesborough Park 1st XI travelled to Driffield on Saturday, led by new captain James Beevers. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the dream start they had hoped for in their first game in Division 1 East. Londesborough were invited to bat first by the home side and after losing both openers early, Charles Rook and Martin Pearson steadied the ship with a partnership of 29, until Martin departed on 15. After three quick wickets in the middle order the significant partnership of the innings was between Charles Rook and Mark Tissiman, with a 7th wicket partnership of 50. Mark remained unbeaten on 50 at the end of the Londesborough innings, which finished on 133 all out. Muhammad Hamza Khan was the pick of the Driffield bowlers, with 4-19 off his 12 overs. Unfortunately, the target of 133 proved to be short of the mark, as Mark Tennant took control of the Driffield batting and steered them to victory, unbeaten on 73.
LPCC: 133-10 (Charles Rook 27, Mark Tissiman 50*, Muhammad Hamza Khan 4-19)
Driffield: 137-4 (Mark Tennant 73*)
The Park looked glorious on Saturday, as Londesborough’s second team entertained Wetherby. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first, a decision that initially looked wise as they finished on an impressive 203 all out. Ian Twitchen carried the Wetherby batting performance, reaching 124 before he was finally undone by the impressive bowling of youngster Harvey Laverack (4-28), aided by a catch by Chris Roper. Jack Sowersby also bowled well with a spell of 3-36.
The Londesborough reply started slowly as two early wickets were lost, but when Steve Dawson joined Matt Ware at the crease the result was never in doubt as they put on 133 for the third wicket. Matt hit 43 and debutant captain Steve Dawson celebrated his first game in charge with an unbeaten 107. Oliver Rook supported well with his 23 not out, as he and Steve steered the park to victory with a score of 207-4.
Wetherby: 203-10 (Ian Twitchen 124, Jack Sowersby 3-36, Harvey Laverack 4-28)
LPCC: 207-4 (Steve Dawson 107*, Matt Ware 43, Oliver Rook 23*)
Londesborough Park would like to thank their team sponsors Britcom International and the Red Lion for their support.
