Londesborough Park 1st XI entertained Hornsea this week in another close match. Batting first, the home side put 142 on the scoreboard before they we all out. Tom Jennings (53) and Martin Pearson (29) were the main contributors, putting a partnership of 60 together, and James Beevers (22) supported. Unfortunately, a mid-order collapse, where six wickets were lost for six runs, kept the score chaseable. Joe Butterworth (5-27) and Douglas Griebenouw (3-27) were the pick of the bowlers.
Hornsea’s run chase got off to a good start, but they too suffered a mid-order collapse, losing four wickets for 5 runs, the highlight for Londesborough being a triple-wicket maiden by Joe Shingles. Martin Pearson and James Beevers also contributed 2 wickets each but, despite getting Hornsea 9-down, the home side couldn’t bag the required tenth wicket and Hornsea knocked off the winning runs with just 3 overs to spare.
LPCC: 142-10 (Tom Jennings 53, James Beevers 22, Martin Pearson 29, Joe Butterworth 5-27, Douglas Griebenouw 3-27)
Hornsea: 143-9 (Paul Clappison 28, Mark Brightmore 48, Douglas Griebenouw 21, Joe Shingles 5-36, Martin Pearson 2-34, James Beevers 2-30)
Londesborough’s second team travelled to face Tadcaster Magnets II and opted to field. Tight bowling limited the home side to 145 all out; Jack Sowersby and Darren Moody both taking 2 wickets, and Tom Williamson taking the lion’s share with 5-38, combining well with captain Steve Dawson who took 4 catches for him.
The Londesborough reply built steadily, and it looked like they would grab the full 30 points, at one point only needing another 23 runs with 6 wickets still in hand, but Jacob Cockeram had different ideas. After an uneventful first spell, Jacob took 5 wickets for 0 runs in his second spell and Londesborough’s hopes of victory were dashed.
TAD: 145-10 (Rob Hill 23, Danny Nicholls 46, Jack Sowersby 2-30, Darren Moody 2-41, Tom Williamson 5-38)
LPCC: 133-10 (Steve Dawson 53, Chris Roper 32, Jacob Cockeram 5-35)
The Foss Evening League team kicked their season off with a trip to Stockton & Hopgrove. The youthful Londesborough side put on a great display, supported by only three senior players, as they posted 82 runs in their 18 overs. Toby Williamson (38) and Harvey Laverack (15) were the pick of the young batsmen. Unfortunately, Stockton & Hopgrove also batted steadily and, despite Matt Ware taking 2-23 in his three overs, and an impressive 3-3 off two overs from Harvey Laverack, the home side crossed the winning line with just 8 balls to spare.
Londesborough Park would like to thank this week’s match ball sponsors MW Pet Shop, Hagston’s Butchers & The Paper Shop.
