Londesborough Park Cricket Club News story

Match Reports 29th May

30 May 2021

Londesborough Park 1st XI travelled to Cottingham on Saturday and were invited to bat first. Tom Eagling top scored on 55, supported by Scott Hardwick (23*) in a partnership of 52.  Martin Pearson added 21 to the Londesborough score (131-10). Dom Rhodes bowled tightly with just 9 runs conceded from his 13 overs but couldn’t find a wicket. Daniel Furlong (3-26) and Jordan Yeomans (3-27) did manage to breach the Londesborough defence.

In reply, Cottingham started slowly, the first 3 batsmen scoring only 50 runs from their 177 balls faced thanks to tight bowling by Londesborough. Unfortunately, Dom Rhodes (50) had a better strike rate (87%), and pushed the Cottingham innings along, until he was bowled by Martin Pearson (2-10) for a significant breakthrough. Cottingham only needed 14 more runs to win at this stage though and eventually got the required runs with 5 overs to spare. As well as Martin’s 2 wickets from 3 overs, Scott Hardwick took 2 for 36 off his 10 overs and Tom Sowersby 1 wicket for just 14 runs from 7 overs. Another good bowling display from the ‘Park, which was unlucky not to get them a much-needed win.

LPCC: 131-10 (Martin Pearson 21, Tom Eagling 55, Scott Hardwick 23*, Daniel Furlong 3-26, Jordan Yeomans 3-27)

Cottingham: 134-5 (Danny Moss 26, Dom Rhodes 50, Scott Hardwick 2-36, Martin Pearson 2-10)

The weather was perfect for Londesborough’s second team match on Saturday, and the performance didn’t disappoint either. Batting first, at the invitation of Bolton Percy, they lost an early wicket, but strong batting performances from Mike Drewery (81), Steve Dawson (47) and Ollie Rook (45) put the match firmly back in Londesborough’s favour. Despite wickets for Jon Anderson (3-33) and two excellent catches and a run out, Bolton Percy couldn’t stem the run flow and Londesborough finished their 45 overs on an impressive 229.

After the tea break, Bolton Percy were kept in check for their innings and the Londesborough total never looked in danger. Good all-round fielding supported the bowlers; Darren Moody took 2-10 off his 7 overs and Jack Sowersby 2-40 off his 10 overs. But, having already contributed 45 runs to the score, it was 14-year-old Ollie Rook who stole the show with an excellent 6-24 off 11 overs, including a double wicket maiden to finish off the Bolton Percy Innings. A well-deserved 30 points for Londesborough, who will be hoping for a repeat performance against New Earswick on Monday.

LPCC: 229-8 (Mike Drewery 81, Steve Dawson 47, Ollie Rook 45, Jon Anderson 3-33)

Bolton Percy: 106-10 (Mathew Howden 23, Darren Moody 2-10, Jack Sowersby 2-40, Ollie Rook 6-24)

Unfortunately, the Foss Evening League game on Wednesday night fell foul of the weather and had to be cancelled.
