Londesborough Park 1st XI were involved in a high scoring game at Sutton-on-Hull on Saturday and came away with the majority of the points with a well-deserved winning draw. Invited to bat first, Londesborough produced some great batting performances to amass an impressive 282-4 from their 50 overs. James Beevers produced the dream captain’s-innings, opening the batting and carrying his bat on 102 not out. He was excellently supported by Tom Jennings (26), Martin Pearson (73) and Tom Eagling (41), including partnerships of 127 with Martin Pearson and 62 with Tom Eagling.
After a very happy tea break for the ‘Park, Sutton went about the daunting challenge they had been set. Despite Ron Grainger being unbeaten on 71 at the end of their 50 overs, they didn’t manage to breach the 282, but also posted over 200 runs, their innings finishing on 214. Londesborough almost achieved the outright win, getting Sutton nine wickets down, thanks mainly to Joe Shingles’ 3-63 off his 15 overs, 2-54 from Ollie Rook, and two runouts by Phil Jennings. But despite the frustration of not picking up the last wicket, Londesborough took away 27 points and the satisfaction of a job well-done.
LPCC: 282-4 (James Beevers 102*, Tom Jennings 26, Martin Pearson 73, Tom Eagling 41)
Sutton on Hull: 214-9 (Rob Grainger 71*, Joe Shingles 3-63, Ollie Rook 2-54)
With no game this weekend, the 2nd XI’s last game was on Bank Holiday Monday, but unfortunately they couldn’t repeat their winning ways of the previous Saturday. Facing New Earswick the captain decided to bat first and, thanks to Chris Roper (24), Steve Dawson (26) and Edward Smith (23), Londesborough posted 126 runs before running out of wickets in the 40th over. Martyn Hewitson was the pick of the bowlers with 4-26. Unfortunately, with 50 overs to play with the total proved to be insufficient and New Earswick knocked them off with 13 overs to spare. John Patrick (56*) and Rob Miller (28*) were the main protagonists, but Jack Sowersby was the pick of the Londesborough bowlers with 2-29 off his 10 overs.
LPCC: 126-10 (Chris Roper 24, Steve Dawson 26, Edward Smith 23, Martyn Hewitson 4-26)
New Earswick: 127-3 (John Patrick 56*, Rob Miller 28*, Jack Sowersby 2-29)
A very youthful Foss Evening League team, which included only four senior players, recorded a good win against Heslington on Wednesday night. They restricted Heslington to 107-3 in their 18 overs, thanks to wickets from Billy Spruyt (2-13) and Tom Councell (1-27). Londesborough knocked off the required runs with the loss of only 2 wickets. Joel Taylor (16) got them off to a good start, but it was Ollie Rook (48*) and Mike Drewery (31*) who got them across the line with ten balls to spare.
Heslington: 107-3 (Robbie Stonadge 42, Andy Luff 24, Billy Spruyt 2-13)
LPCC: 108-2 (Ollie Rook 48*, Mike Drewery 31*)
