It was celebrations all round at the weekend as both Londesborough Park teams secured well-deserved wins.
The first XI entertained Hull Zingari and offered them the opportunity to bat first after winning the toss. Only Muhammad Ayub contributed significantly to the visitor’s score with 41 runs, thanks to tight bowling from the Londesborough attack. All five bowlers took wickets, but Tom Sowersby (3-28) and Joe Shingles (3-33) did the main damage, bagging 3 wickets each. The Hull Zingari innings ended on a below par 134, when they were all out in the 43rd over.
The Londesborough chase suffered a minor hiccup when they lost one of their openers early, but James Beevers and Tom Jennings steadied the ship. The main partnership of the innings however was the 70 runs shared between Charles Rook (34*) and Tom Eagling (45), which proved to be decisive and steered Londesborough towards victory with plenty of overs to spare.
Hull Zingari: 134-10 (Muhammad Ayub 41, Tom Sowersby 3-28, Joe Shingles 3-33, James Beevers 2-15)
LPCC: 135-6 (James Beevers 22, Charles Rook 34*, Tom Eagling 45, Fergus Wilkinson 2-37)
The second XI travelled to picturesque Westow, where the home side batted first. After finding themselves on 47-3, Westow settled into a rhythm and eventually posted a respectable 162 runs in their 45 overs, the main contributor being Alistair Fothergill (49*). Tom Williamson (5-58) took the bowling honours with an important five wicket haul.
Londesborough’s openers set a good platform to chase down the runs, but when Chris Roper was out with the score on 25, Michael Drewery (47) was joined by Matt Ware (16). They kept the score moving along quickly with a valuable second wicket partnership of 53. Tom Williamson then continued his successful day with 36* in another important partnership of 57 with John Coote (21*) which saw the ‘Park secure victory in the 37th over. Wickets were taken by Nathan Pratt (3-61) and Alistair Fothergill (2-33).
Westow: 162-9 (Chris Inman 26, Matthew Shipley 28, Alistair Fothergill 49*, Tom Williamson 5-58)
LPCC: 163-5 (Michael Drewery 47, John Coote 21*, Tom Williamson 36*, Nathan Pratt 3-61, Alistair Fothergill 2-33)
