Londesborough park 1st XI travelled to the seaside on Saturday to face Bridlington. The home side won the toss and fancied a bat, which proved to be a good decision as both openers got off to a very good start. Sam Wragg (67) and Casey Rudd (94) delivered a first wicket partnership of 113 before James Beevers forced the error from Wragg for a catch. Casey Rudd continued to bat with intent until Tom Williamson spoilt his party, ending his innings six runs short of his century. John Major added 40 and Elliot Traves 25 before falling to Joe Shingles (3-81) in his second bowling spell. Bridlington declared, leaving Londesborough 54 overs to chase down 270 runs. Londesborough fielded well to support their bowlers, with six catches being taken and a run out.

Londesborough Park lost an opener early, but this didn’t dampen their spirits as James Beevers (46) and Tom Jennings (43) set about the task in hand. Unfortunately, neither could hang on for a well-deserved 50, but they set up a very good platform to build from, putting on 63 for the second wicket. Martin Pearson added another 23 to the score, but a 7th wicket partnership of 60 between Charles Rook (38*) and Scott Hardwick (22*) frustrated Bridlington and gained Londesborough a well-deserved draw. Bridlington used 9 bowlers to try and secure the outright win, but only Simon Leeson saw consistent success with 3-12.

Bridlington: 270-7 dec (Sam Wragg 67, Casey Rudd 94, John Major 40, Joe Shingles 3-81, Tom Williamson 2-35)

Londesborough second XI entertained Duncombe Park, who were sat second in the table at the beginning of the day. Londesborough batted first and Edward Smith and Steve Dawson scored 22 apiece. Lucas Stephenson added a further 40, and Darren Moody remained unbeaten on 24 as a competitive total of 162 runs was reached. Phil Rutter took 3-38 and Henry Marwood frustrated the Londesborough innings with his 5-18 and an economy of 1.8.

The Londesborough bowling attack found early success, as Darren Moody took the wicket of Marwood with just 9 runs on the board. Unfortunately, despite all the bowler’s and team’s efforts, they couldn’t find another breakthrough. Duncombe Park secured the win in the 28th over, thanks to Thomas Fairburn (80*) and Patrick Obank (67*).

LPCC: 162-10 (Edward Smith 22, Steve Dawson 22, Lucas Stephenson 40, Darren Moody 24*, Phil Rutter 3-38, Henry Marwood 5-18)

The Wednesday night team faced Rufforth this week. The Park youngsters once again showed their potential, but ultimately came up just short in an entertaining run chase. Tom Councell (2-19) and Harvey Laverack (1-19) bowled economically in their 4 overs, supported by some superb fielding. Ben Marson and Joel Taylor also took a wicket each and Ollie Rook bagged 2 in his only over. Mike Evans top scored for Rufforth with 39, and Richard Exley added 24 to their innings of 125-7.

Ollie Rook (31) and senior pro Martin Pearson (28) led the way with the bat for Londesborough as they sought to reach the target set. Unfortunately, Rufforth’s bowling proved to be too good, and they ran out of overs 10 runs short of the target.

Rufforth: 125-7 (Mike Evans 39, Richard Exley 24, Tom Councell 2-19, Ollie Rook 2-7)

LPCC: 116-5 (Ollie Rook 31, Martin Pearson 28, Connor Sanderson 2-20)
