Londesborough Park Cricket Club News story

Match reports 26th June

27 Jun 2021

It was another good weekend for Londesborough Park as both teams secured maximum points. The first team entertained Woodhouse Grange and, batting first, got off to a good start with 60 on the board before the first wicket fell. Unfortunately three wickets followed relatively quickly and Londesborough had to rebuild from 85-3. This they did, as Charles Rook (75) and Lucas Stephenson (64*) put on an impressive 140 for the fourth wicket. The total reached 234 from the 50 overs, boosted by 47 extras.

Woodhouse set about the challenge and reached 45 before losing the first wicket. With two partnerships in the 30’s the score ticked along, but regular wickets by Joe Shingles (4-59) and James Beevers (4-44) kept the game in Londesborough’s favour and they eventually secured the 10th wicket, and the 30 points, in the 46th over.

LPCC: 234-4 (James Beevers 27, Charles Rook 75, Lucas Stephenson 64*, Harry Jackson 2-21)

Woodhouse: 195-10 (Christopher Wood 51, Harry Jackson 34, Joe Shingles 4-59, James Beevers 4-44)

The second team travelled to league leaders Hovingham. The home side batted first, and a large score looked inevitable as they reached a daunting 98 runs before Londesborough got their first breakthrough, thanks to Richard Hudson (64) and Tom Boyle (25). However, the first wicket opened the flood gates and just 12 overs later Hovingham found themselves all out on 138. Tom Williamson took the bowling honours with 6-35 from his 8 overs, with Darren Moody (2-42) and Ollie Rook (2-3) cleaning up the rest.

With 56 overs to chase down the score, Londesborough had plenty of time. Phil Jennings (34) and Michael Drewery (34) got the Park off to the start they needed with an opening partnership of over 50. Chris Roper continued the good work, adding a further 21 runs, and the result looked inevitable. This proved to be the case, as Steve Dawson and Matt Ware saw Londesborough across the winning line with 24 overs to spare.

Hovingham: 138-10 (Richard Hudson 64, Tom Boyle 25, Darren Moody 2-42, Tom Williamson 6-35, Ollie Rook 2-3)

LPCC: 139-3 (Phil Jennings 34, Michael Drewery 34, Chris Roper 21)

The Foss Evening League team faced Stockton & Hopgrove this week, which turned out to be another entertaining run chase. Stockton’s top order of Rich Kerrison (29), Rob Cockerill (31) and Dan Durkin (30) set the tone from the outset, punishing any loose deliveries and the Park’s bowlers weren’t able to find the breakthroughs they needed. Stockton finished their innings with an above par 130. In reply, Park’s top three all got starts but none could turn them into a big score. The middle order of James Beevers (31), Jack Cowling (13) and Charles Rook (28) gave the run chase some impetus, but unfortunately it was a little too late and with 17 required off the last over they finished 9 short of the win.

Stockton & Hopgrove: 129-3 (Rich Kerrison 29, Rob Cockerill 31, Dan Durkin 30)

LPCC: 121-7 (James Beevers 31, Charles Rook 28)
