End of Season Review

01 Oct 2023

The end of season presentation evening was held at the Bay Horse, Market Weighton, on Saturday 30th September.

It was a fantastic season for the club and all those involved. A tremendous team effort saw the 1st XI crowned champions of Division One East and secure promotion to the Championship next year. The season for the 2nd XI was more difficult with the move up to Holderness Divison Two, compounded by player availability challenges. Despite the odds they fulfilled all but two of their fixtures and provided playing opportunities for junior members of the club. Furthermore, the club was delighted to recruit a number of new players, who all made valuable contributions to both teams throughout the season.

Both captains, and the club secretary, thanked everyone who supported the efforts on the field, in particular the many volunteers who umpire, score, prepare the ground, prepare teas, clean and maintain the pavilion, and the club officials who keep the club running, plus our many sponsors.

The playing awards and some gifts of thanks were handed out, including a special recognition award to Phil High on his retirement from umpiring, for his many years of loyal service.

The award winners were as follows:

1st XI Batting - James Beevers
1st XI Bowling - Joe Shingles
1st XI Player of the season - Ben Shingles
2nd XI Batting - Steve Dawson
