On behalf of LPCC it is with great sadness I have to pass on the news of Margaret Milne’s passing early this morning.
As many of you will know, Margaret and husband Peter were great
stalwarts of the club. During Peter’s playing days Margaret could be
found in the tea room preparing teas and after some cajoling she became
club treasurer in the early 1970’s, keeping a close eye on club expenses
and ensuring Peter didn’t get too carried away with another one of his
ideas. She held this position until the present day.
Both keen golfers, Peter and Margaret were the inspiration behind the
clubs well known and supported golf day which began nearly 30 years ago
to help fund the new pavilion, and has been an ever present date in the
clubs fundraising calendar ever since. Margaret continued to almost
single handedly organise the day after Peter’s passing and it is a
testament to her dedication to the club and its members that it has had
the longevity and success in that time.
Margaret will be greatly missed by all those that knew her, both at
Driffield Golf Club, LPCC and the wider community and on behalf of the
clubs membership and friends I send our heartfelt condolences to both
Robert and Richard and their respective families at this difficult time.
