Londesborough Park Cricket Club News story

Jim Bytheway

25 Jun 2024

On behalf of Londesborough Park Cricket Club it is with great sadness that I have to pass on the news of Jim Bytheway’s passing on 8th June, aged 81.

As many of you will know, Jim and his wife Christine have been great supporters of the club since their arrival in Market Weighton and involved themselves in many ways whilst running the Red Lion public house. The club based its ‘after match hospitality’ at the Red Lion for much of Jim and Christine’s tenure. Jim was an active member of the club’s fundraising committee as well as a longstanding vice president and he and Christine provided teas for home fixtures for many years and hosted the annual Christmas draw. In the good old days of club tours, many kicked off with a full English and an early morning pint at the Lion!  Jim enjoyed a long and popular time behind the bar at the Lion before he and Christine retired and took up residence on Hawling Road.

Nothing was too much trouble for Jim in his support of the club and he will be greatly missed by all those that knew him, Londesborough Park Cricket Club and the wider community. On behalf of the club’s membership and friends I send our heartfelt condolences to Christine, Lee and their respective families at this difficult time.

Jim’s funeral will be held at Haltemprice Crematorium, Willerby on Tuesday 2nd July at 11.30am.
