Match day 8
After another week off due to the glorious British weather LPCC 1Xl made the trip to picturesque Hull Zingari 2Xl.
A very unenthusiastic pre match warmup on a damp outfield would set the early tone of the game but not the whole game fortunately.
Skipper Moody again calling correctly(tails never fails) elected to bowl first on a dry flat looking wicket.
Tissiman and Moody took the first 6 overs and that is all I will be saying about that part. Foster replaced Tissiman and Rook replaced Moody as the opening batsmen played positively and dispatched many poor deliveries to the boundary 4. After Foster had his try at slowing the home teams run rate to no prevail, Our main spinning option with that X-factor Ryan'Rylan'Curtis bowled really well slowing the run rate in tandem with Charles bowling his bag of inconsistent balls.
After an opening partnership of 96 off 20 overs former skipper Rook removed Hales for 59 going lbw, soon after Ryan removed Gravill(45). Zingari who set of like a rocket now began to struggle to keep the run rate high due to some good ground fielding and bowling. Charles finishing his 12 over spell with 2-44 well done(he nearly came off after 6 overs).
The ginger 'Anderson' returned to his favoured end(downhill back wind) and bagged himself 2 wickets whilst keeping the scoring low, Beevers bowled well at the death when Zingari where looking to attack and was unfortunate to not get a wicket.
Close of innings Zingari posted 199/6, at 1 point it could of been 300. Well done to all for digging in.
After chip butties for Tea it was down to Rook and new recruit Stothard to chase the total down, a quiet first 10 overs as Charlie and Phil got there eye in, the runs began to flow. Phil(44) hitting the ball with great purpose and over the ropes at times and Charles batting with great class hitting ball between the fielders. The highest opening partnership of our season so far(134) which included 50 for Rook was ended when Phil top edged to the mid wicket fielder who tried his best to drop it. Well batted Phil.
At 3 was youngster Saltmer(33) with licence to play his natural game and he did just that hitting the ball crisply to the boundary, whilst Rook at the other inspired after drinking Pimms and watching Liam Plunkett bat at lords the previous day was in a hurry and continued on to bring up his 1st 100 since June 4th 2011 away at Bolton Percy a really good knock. Nathan departed trying to hit the ball into near by village of cottingham, and keeper Greg 'D' Drewery finished the game off with a leg sided slog for 4.
It was good to see us chase down a total with great purpose(33.5 overs) and not get out to sloppy bowling.
Thanks for coming to Ben Lewis and Steve Dawson.
Man of the Match just going to former skipper Charles Rook for his 107 not out and 2/44 and he even managed a smile after moaning for 12 overs whilst bowling(temperamental bowlers ey)
