Now into the 2nd half of our cricketing summer and LPCC 1X1 travelled to the picturesque seaside resort of Hornsea.
To sum the season up so far.
The one thing that has been consistent this year is the changing of the team for various reasons week in week out, in total already this season 22 fine athletes have played first team cricket and this shows in our league position off 6th(would be 7th if Clifton weren't deducted 30points). We have 3 men on 300+ runs so far for the season-well done to Charles, Phil and Greg- all scoring a century each.
Not much to shout about in the bowling department with skipper Moody leading the way on 13 closely followed by Richard 'topping his tan up' Foster on 11.
So too Saturday Moody again called correctly and inserted the opposition hoping to snaffle a few cheap quick wickets. Well that didn't happen as clappison(124) and battye(72) amassed a huge 184 for the first wicket, next in was South African Douglas Griebenhouw with 3 centuries and 500 runs already to his name, and what followed was some amazing shots and timing of a cricket ball I've ever seen. The ball going over the pavilion and houses behind with great ease as he took a liking to Moody's dire bowling(1/96 of 10). Inspired by yours truly for telling him they hadn't got enough runs yet--300 was already up-- Griebenhouw brought up his 4th century of 45 balls. Rhys Duerden the only bowler to collect more than 1 wicket, also there was only 1 maiden.
Hornsea finishing on a massive 342/4.
Following a tea I wouldn't feed my dog(I don't own 1) Stothard and returning James Hanley went out to set about knocking off the 342, both finding the boundary relatively easily until James departed for 28 bowled Medford, previous weeks hero Greg Drewery joined Phil with a mission to score big. Stothard(60) again kept his good form going with another half century until he was out caught trying to Hit the ball into the North Sea. Greg decided he didn't want to bat with Sam Dodd so duly ran him out, brother Michael was given out stumped by dad, Tissiman(13) looked in good touch at 6 until he was bowled by a ripper of a delivery by Griebenhouw, Lewis was also stumped falling over his own shadow. Whilst all this was happening Greg Drewery was showing his class as he passed fifty and was swiftly heading to his maiden LPCC century until he hit the nervous 90's and couldn't get the strike. Mother Janet was more nervous as she kept getting the scoreboard wrong, but once he regained the strike Greg hit his 1st of what will be many centuries and fully deserved his fish and chips award--rumour has it he has a girlfriend now, will he share it? Doubt it...
LPCC finished up there 45 overs on a respectable 268/6.
