LPCC 2nd XI vs. Cawood I
With the weather set fine for most of April, the only thing that could change it was the start of the cricket season. A strong looking Red Lion sponsored LPCC 2nd XI entertained Cawood first team at Londesborough.
Skipper Williamson started how he means to go on by winning the toss, and on a damp, cold and windy day inserted the visitors on a dry wicket. The game lasted just the 1 innings before the rain and bad light halted play. Rich Foster made the first breakthrough in the 11th over, getting the aggressive Baxter caught by Blaster Barlow at first slip. Tom Sowersby bowled quickly and eventually got the wicket he deserved thanks to a catch from Ed Smith. With the odd shower interrupting play, the outfield became damp and the ball wet which made bowling awkward. Rich Foster cooly ran out opener Woodhead D, just clipping the stumps with an underarm throw from 2 yards away with the score 34-3. Pullein and Russell increased the scoring rate until Pullein went back to a shooter and was hit on the pads, off Joel Taylors bowling. Probably the easiest LBW decision from umpire Nigel Botting, who kindly stepped in for the day. Russell reached his half century before chopping on to give Sam Dodd his first wicket in a number of years. The Cawood innings finished on 177 for the loss of 5 wickets. Liddle and Woodhead P with a 50 partnership at the end. Unfortunately Park never got started as the rain came, the covers went on and never off. A frustrating day for Park who had a strong batting line up, and quite fancied a bat after 44 overs in the rain.
