Any chance of some warm weather?
With 8 games gone and only 2 abandoned games, 5 wins and a solitary loss, the Britcom sponsored first X1 have had a strong start to the 2015 season in Division 2 north.This weeks visitors where Acomb 2’s looking to kick start there season.
As per usual the rain arrived on game day and to make things worse it started just as the teams where arriving at the ground at 12:30.
With the covers on, the warm up and toss delayed the usual changing room banter of winding the former first team skipper up and a bit of stick cricket taking place.
After 1 hour 45 minutes of that light fine stuff that gets you soaking wet the game began at 3:15, a 31 over slog.
Skipper Moody won his 6th toss of the year(luck soon to run out) invited Acomb to bat first, Joe Shingles returning from a broken finger and Tom Eagling retuning from a groin strain took the new ball.
Some gentle bowling saw the visitors to 15 after the first 3 overs until Eagling removed opener Booth(6) caught behind down the leg side by keeper Greg Drewery one handed.
Tissiman replaced Eagling and removed the other opener named Booth(13) clean bowled.
The run out of Littlewood(23) by the combined efforts of Mike Drewery and James Beevers and another wicket for Tissiman by a excellent catch at point by Beevers had the visitors 55/4 and over half the overs bowled.
A partnership of 48 between Grant and Williams followed as both played aggressively in punishing the bad balls and running well between the wickets.
Rook removed Grant(20) caught by Beevers. Dan Liitlewood joined Williams and continued on supporting the latter whom soon brought up his 50 in no time at all, a run out of the final ball left Acomb on a very competitive 163/6 in there allotted 31 overs.
After another fabulous LPCC tea it was down to Gamble and Stothard to set the tone and chase the runs down, both had the usual watchful first few overs. Stothard wasted no time in showing his class by hitting the ball hard and over the ropes, Gamble playing the anchor but striking the ball well, using his feet to the spinner until his youthful patience ran out and was caught mid wicket(22)
Rook came in had a look and went back to the pavilion to carry on watching and rest his hangover.
66/2 and less than half the overs remaining Greg Drewery joined Stothard, after struggling for a over or 2 Greg wasted no time in getting the scoreboard moving and helping big Phil’s cardiovascular fitness by running quickly between the wickets.
Phil not to keen on the running decided it was time to make hay, 4’s simply weren’t good enough so despite the fielders on the rope he went over with the usual brute force maximums, some where still going upwards after passing the sightscreen which enabled him to bring up his 3rd 50 of the season.
Greg not to be out matched played the adventures ramp shot that Jos Butler uses twice in the same over to leave LPCC needing 10 with 3 overs to spare.Stothard finished the game off in the 29th over leaving him unbeaten on 81(71) and Drewery46(48), a partnership of 98 giving LPCC there 4th win in a row and moving them upto 3rd in the league 14 points of Selby.
