This week LPCC travelled to Hovingham equip with a strong batting line up and a squad of 12 just in case the wicket caused a change in tactics.
Skipper Moody was back to winning the toss and elected to bowl on a dry used track.
Joe Shingles took the first over, with his confidence now returned as before his injury bowled with good accuracy swinging the ball both ways and making scoring difficult for the Hovingham openers. Moody at the other end looking a tad slow and very unfit took several overs to get the body loose but at least kept the scoring low.Moody claimed the 1st scalp of Bowling(5)clean bowled. The very next over Shingles removed the other opener Milne(1) with him nicking of behind to G.Drewery. Moody removed number 4 D.Bowling(16) with a short slow wide delivery caught at point by Beevers, in the meantime Robinson was taking a particular liking to Eagling’ full pitched delivery’s (yes full pitched) and was crushing them through the covers for 4, Eagling did grab a wicket caught behind by Drewery with the hosts on 74/4.
Michael Drewery replaced Moody and steamed in of his 40 yard run up with chest and backside puffed out. Runs where now coming a bit more freely for the home team until the return of Shingles for his 2nd spell, Joe carried on where he left of bowling excellently and removed Deverell(8) LBW, soon after Shingles collected his 3rd wicket again caught behind by Greg. 98/6.
As the innings was drawing to a close Robinson stepped up the pace bringing up his half century and taking most of the scoring on his own, a 49 run partnership was ended in the final over (which only went for 1 run) with the last ball of the innings which when M.Drewery claimed his first X1 wicket in his illustrious career.
Hovingham closing on a steady 147/7
Gamble and Stothard made the usual watchful start taking singles and eventually striking the odd lusty blow as the hosts bowled well in the early going, first to depart was Gamble in the 20’s again (big score coming soon hopefully) caught well at gully by the Skipper Mosey, Greg popped out to give Mosey another chance at taking a catch at gully 3 balls later for 0.56/2 and still a far amount of time left in the game and plenty of batting to come.
A partnership of 31 between Stothard and Beevers came to an end when Beevers dished his own catching practice to the home side for a dogged 10.
In at 5 and fresh of his jollies in Skegness Rook joined Stothard who now brought up another 50 for LPCC.
Rook ever the aggressor and team player took 30 balls to even think about scoring his first run but when he did wasted no time in tucking into the bowling and he even managed to just hit a 6 on the shortest boundary.
A 64 run partnership saw LPCC home to there 7th 30 point outing of the season and leaves them in 4th place 19 points of a promotion place.
