Londesborough Park Cricket Club News story

22nd June Match Reports

25 Jul 2017

Britcom sponsored Londesborough Park 1st XI secured a much needed third win of the season last Saturday when they hosted bottom of the pile Pickering.

Yet again skipper Tom Eagling came second at the coin toss but was probably pleased that opposing skipper Charlie Marwood decided to bat. In form Park bowler Ciaran Brooke didn’t waste too much time breaking the opening partnership, castling Shaun Smith for 16. Joe Shingles was next to strike, dismissing Daniel Ward for 9. The visitors then self destructed, losing a further four wickets for the addition of just 13 runs as Darren Moody and Charlie Rook made inroads together with a run out instigated by Shingles. A seventh wicket partnership of 22 was curtailed by the park’s 5th bowler James Beevers who wheeled 5 overs and conceded just 7 runs. The Pickering tail showed little resistance and, but for Stephen Temple scoring 34, the final tally of 98 would have been considerably less.

The Park’s opening batsmen James Hanley and Beevers wasted no time in posting over half of the runs required until the former departed for 19 with the score on 59. Charlie Rook appeared briefly before falling victim of a run out, skipper Eagling chipped in with 13 and, despite the loss of Beevers (37) and Michael Drewery an unbeaten 15 from Lucas Stephenson saw the Park to a comfortable 5 wicket victory.

Runs, a wicket and a run out put Beevers to the fore of the race for the Harpers fish & chips and, from the other end of town, generous sponsorship of the match ball was provided by The Paper Shop.
Pickering 2nd XI 98 (S Temple 34, C Rook 3-25, C Brooke 3-29) Londesborough Park 1st XI 99-5 (J Beevers 37)

The Park’s 2nd XI, sponsored by the Red Lion, has not seen much action of late as last weekend’s fixture at Copmanthorpe was called off without a ball being bowled.
