Londesborough Park Cricket Club News story

Match Reports w/e 24th June

24 Jun 2018

Stamford Bridge II, and a good number of their supporters, travelled to the Park on Saturday and were treated to a high scoring and entertaining game of cricket. Stamford batted first and despite losing an early wicket managed to post 216 on the board for the loss of only four further wickets. Martin Woodliffe (38) and Salman Syed (75*), with support from Phil Hill (26) and the rest of the upper order, set Londesborough the highly competitive target.

The Park set about the task ahead and after a steady start, and a well-constructed 38 from James Beevers, it was the major partnership of the Londesborough innings between Lucas Stephenson (42) and Charles Rook (72*) that started to make a victory look possible. The departure of Stephenson caused a slight hiccup in the Londesborough run chase, and Rook was then joined by Michael Drewery. They scored quickly however fell 15 runs short of the required target, but nonetheless saw Londesborough to a 90% losing draw.

The Harper’s Man of the Match went to Charles Rook.

Stamford Bridge II: 216-5 (M Woodliffe 38, S Syed 75*)

LPCC: 202-6 (J Beevers 38, L Stephenson 42, C Rook 72*, M Fairweather 3-29)

Londesborough’s second XI travelled to Carlton Towers, trying to maintain their promotion challenge but sadly one man short due to a variety of events taking away numerous potential players. Carlton took advantage of the first use of the wicket and the reduced number of Londesborough fielders, which was made worse when the skipper pulled a hamstring mid-innings. Thomas Haw (62), Hardeep Singh (62), Marcus Atkinson (59) and Marcus Thandi (40) were the main contributors to Carlton’s total of 287 when their innings was brought to a conclusion in the final over. Joel Taylor (3-43) was the pick of the Londesborough bowlers.

Joel Taylor (30) and John Coote (104*) gave Londesborough a solid start. After the loss of 3 wickets Mark Tissiman (57*) joined John Coote at the crease and their unbroken partnership saw John reach his maiden century, which included 16 fours, and allowed Londesborough to pick up a valuable losing draw. This was an extremely creditable performance under challenging circumstances and a great credit to all involved.

Harper’s Man of the Match was awarded to John Coote.

Carlton Towers: 287-10 (T Haw 62, H Singh 62, M Atkinson 59, M Thandi 40, J Taylor 3-43)

LPCC: 228-3 (J Taylor 30, J Coote 104*, M Tissiman 57*)

Londesborough park would like to thank their team sponsors Britcom International and the Red Lion, and this week’s ball sponsors Flower Merchant Sally May and Turnbull’s Paper Shop.
