Stand in skipper Mike Drewery won the toss on Saturday
and invited Woodhouse Grange III to bat first. Runs proved difficult to come by
initially, but Dan Durkin (51*) and Matt Ainley (32) pushed the score along in
the second half, posting a final total of 142-4. The wickets came from James
Beevers (2-38), Martin Pearson (1-25) and Scott Hardwick (1-39). The low light
of the innings was the retirement of stalwart Stuart Craven, who was unable to
continue due to a damaged hamstring.
In the Park’s reply both openers fell cheaply, but a
third wicket partnership of 41 between Martin Pearson (33) and Lucas Stephenson
(37), followed quickly by a 32 partnership between Lucas and Steve Dawson
(33no) got the Park close to the finishing line. Dawson was finally supported by his skipper to secure the victory.
WHG III: 142-4 (Dan Durkin 51*, Matt Ainley 32)
LPCC: 143-6 (Martin Pearson 33, Lucas Stephenson 37,
Steve Dawson 33*)
In the reverse fixture at Woodhouse Grange the second team
secured a 23-point winning draw. Three of the top order were lost early, leaving the Park on 9 for 3, but Mark Tissiman’s good form continued, contributing a valuable
65. Henry Smith (29*) contributed to a 26 partnership with Tissiman and a 36
partnership with Matt Dunn, recovering the score to 157 for 8. Peter Edmondson (3-
31) and Alex Haley (3-41) were the pick of the bowlers.
In the second innings Darren Moody (2-11)
and Joel Taylor (2-16) bowled accurately as Woodhouse struggled to 16 for 3 off
13 overs and it looked like an outright win for the Park might be on the cards,
but Arlo Miller (58*) and Alex Haley (30) helped Woodhouse hang on for a draw,
with the park taking the Lion’s share of the points.
LPCC: 157-8 (Mark Tissiman 65, Henry Smith 29*, Alex
Haley 3-41, Peter Edmondson 3-31)
WHG IV: 131-5 (Arlo Miller 58*, Alex Haley 30, Darren
Moody 2-11, Joel Taylor 2-16)
