Londesborough Park 1st team travelled the
short distance to Pocklington on Saturday. After winning the toss and choosing
to field, good bowling from the Park’s opening bowlers Moody and Pearson put
the home team under pressure, taking 2 wickets each. Pocklington also struggled
to score against the spinners, with birthday boy Scott Hardwick taking 4
wickets, including a triple wicket maiden. A late flourish from former Londesborough
player Ben Shingles got the home side to 86-10.
The visitors struggled early on, losing 3 quick wickets
for 10 runs, but Park’s skipper and Steve Dawson dug in with a partnership of
32 and got the Park to the half-way point at drinks. Three quick wickets put
the pressure back on the visitors, but a middle order of Tissiman, Williamson
and Hardwick saw the Park over the line with three wickets to spare.
POCK I: 86-10 (Ben Shingles 31, Darren Moody 2-18,
Martin Pearson 2-21, Scott Hardwick 4-22)
LPCC: 87-7 (Tom Eagling 21, Connaire Brattan 2-27,
Chris Saltmer 2-10)
Londesborough Park second team missed out on yet
another game on Saturday as Cawood 2nd conceded on the previous
Wednesday. 30 points gifted towards their division placing, but with only three
matches played to a conclusion so far it is turning out to be a very
frustrating season.
The Wednesday night team finally got a game in, against
Heworth Colts at Londesborough Park. Unfortunately, they were on the wrong side
of the result, after bowling Heworth out for 92 runs. Ryan Whitley (20) and
Will Etty (23) were the top scorers, and Matt Ware (3-16) and youngster Sam
Young (3-5) were the pick of the Park’s bowlers. Despite James Beevers making
48 and Matt Ware 18 not out in the reply, the Park were unable to cross the
winning line, finishing 11 runs short of the victory.
Londesborough Park would like to thank this week’s match
ball sponsors The Goodmanham Arms, McDonalds Shiptonthorpe, and The Carpenter’s
Arms.
