Londesborough Park 1st team faced Stamford
Bridge on Saturday, who won the toss and opted to bat first. Wickets fell
fairly steadily, and Stamford found themselves on 78-6, thanks to wickets from
Martin Pearson (4-47), and one each from Tom Sowersby and Darren Moody. However,
the home side rallied and improved to 125 before the next wicket fell, courtesy
of Mark Tissiman. But a destructive hat-trick by Scott Hardwick (3-10) brought
a lightening quick finish to the innings and Stamford found themselves all out
for 126 in the 34th over. Only Martyn Woodliffe (38), Roddy Vann (23no) and Daniel
Davies (24) contributed significantly to the score.
The Londesborough reply started confidently and the
result was never really in danger. Tom Jennings added to his 3 catches behind
the stumps with 58 not out with the bat, and a quick 36 from Martin Pearson off
just 31 balls got the Park close to the finishing line, which they reached with
the loss of only 3 wickets. A great win, and one which keeps the Park in second
position in Ebor 2 division.
Stamford Bridge: 126-10 (Martyn Woodliffe 38, Martin Pearson
4-47, Scott Hardwick 3-10)
LPCC: 130-3 (Tom Jennings 58no, Martin Pearson 36)
Londesborough Park second team finally got to play a
full game on Saturday; entertaining Heworth IV at the park. Londesborough were
invited to bat first and made the most of the invitation as Joel Taylor (58), stand-in
skipper Ian Hodson (63no) and Tom Griffiths (67no) steered the Park to an
impressive 222-2 after 45 overs. Heworth looked to be heading towards an outright
defeat when their reply stuttered to 66-4, however with the help of the youthful
lower order batsmen they managed to bat the full 45 overs to secure a draw. Londesborough
claimed almost maximum points from the encounter however, maintaining third
place in Ebor 4.
LPCC: 222-2 (Joel Taylor 58, Ian Hodson 63no, Tom
Griffiths 67no)
Heworth IV: 142-8 (Tom Downes 40, Drew Patel 26no)
The Wednesday night team were pitted against Stamford
Bridge but posted a below par 79 in their 20 overs. Unfortunately, the Bridge didn’t
have much problem knocking off the runs and crossed the finish line with the
loss of only 2 wickets in the 9th over.
Londesborough Park would like to thank this week’s match
ball sponsors MW Farm Supplies, Hall & Featherstone, and Deep Blue Fish
& Chips.
