With Londesborough Park’s 2nd team having
another free weekend it was left to the 1st XI to entertain the club
members on Saturday. They didn’t disappoint, with a valuable and exciting victory
over York III at the Park. York decided to let Londesborough bat first, which
appeared to be a good decision as the home team faltered to 22-1 in the 9th
over. James Beevers (42), Martin Pearson (25), Tom Eagling (30) and Lucas
Stephenson (33) all contributed to re-building the score however, and Mark Tissiman (13
no) held the latter part of the innings together until he ran out of partners
in the 39th over thanks to a flurry of wickets by Matthew Wright
(4-31). Londesborough set York a respectable target of 171 to win.
With 51 overs to chase down the total, York scored
slowly at first, but looked to be in the driving seat initially as their
innings remained intact until the 22nd over. After the initial
wicket, three more came quickly in the next five overs and the balance swung
back towards Londesborough as York stuttered to 71-4. York worked hard to rebuild
their innings, but after the 5th wicket fell Londesborough were back
in control and managed to curtail the York innings at just 131 in the 47th
over. Scott Hardwick continued his wicket taking spree, taking four wickets for
just 18 runs in his 10.1 over stretch, and James Beevers also took four wickets
for 35 runs to add to his tally for the season. Impressive fielding supported
the bowling performance, most notably a sharp run out by Jack Sowersby and lofty
catch by Steve Dawson, and another great team performance secured maximum
points for the home side.
LPCC: 170-10 (James Beevers 42, Martin Parson 25, Tom
Eagling 30, Lucas Stephenson 33, Matthew Wright 4-31)
York III: 131-10 (Kieron Bloor 29, Scott Hardwick
4-18, James Beevers 4-35)
A youthful team travelled to face Tang Hall Tigers on Wednesday
night. Londesborough Park posted 91-8 in their 18 overs, courtesy mainly of Lucas
Stephenson (20) and skipper Joel Taylor (24). In the reply Matt Ware (3-6) and
Sam Young (2-16) bowled tightly to try and keep the Park in the game but the
Tigers knocked off the required runs in the 15th over. Whilst the
result was disappointing it was good to see a number of juniors getting the
opportunity to play open age cricket, with the team including three U15’s and
one U13.
Londesborough Park would like to thank this week’s match
ball sponsors Kevin Parsons Ltd and F Leake Butchers.
