Londesborough Park 1st XI continued their
winning streak in a low scoring encounter against Yapham on Saturday. Yapham
decided to field after a successful coin toss, and invited Londesborough to bat
first. Openers Tom Jennings (37) and James Beevers (25) got the Park off to a promising
start until Beevers was dismissed with the score on 38. The loss of three quick
wickets for only 10 more runs then put Yapham in control at 48-4. Tom Jennings held
up one end to stabilise the innings and the introduction of Scott Hardwick (28
no) and Joel Taylor (21 including 3 sixes) finally saw the Park finish their 45
overs with 141 on the board. Jonathan
Flint was the pick of the Yapham bowlers with 4-21.
With a relatively low score to protect, the
Londesborough bowlers needed to be on their top game. It was definitely their
day, as openers Tom Sowersby and Martin Pearson reduced Yapham to 39-6 between
them, Tom taking 2 wickets for 38 runs in his 12 overs, and Martin taking 4
wickets for just 8 runs in his devastating 12 over spell. James Beevers and Scott
Hardwick joined the attack and carried on the good work, James giving away only
7 runs for 2 wickets in his 5 overs and Scott also securing 2 wickets for 20
runs in his 4 overs. An excellent bowling and fielding display by all, which
saw Yapham all out for just 87 runs and Londesborough taking the full 30
points.
LPCC: 141-8 (Tom Jennings 37, James Beevers 25, Scott
Hardwick 28 no, Joel Taylor 21, Jonathan Flint 4-21)
Yapham: 87-10 (Martin Pearson 4-8, Tom Sowersby 2-38,
James Beevers 2-7, Scott Hardwick 2-20)
The Wednesday night team were pitted against Bolton
Percy this week. Bolton Percy managed to get through their innings, but the
heavens opened half-way through the Londesborough reply and the match had to be
abandoned.
