Londesborough Park Cricket Club News story

Match Report 21st August

22 Aug 2021

Only Londesborough Park 1st XI had a game this weekend; entertaining Sutton-on-Hull CC at the Park. After some early morning rain and with more of the same forecast, Sutton won the toss and invited Londesborough to bat first. Sutton had an early success when the first wicket was lost with only 13 runs on the board. A partnership of 35 between Tom Jennings and Londesborough captain James Beevers steadied the ship a little but when James resistance was ended when he was on 37, with the score on 68-4, the hosts were clearly in a ‘spot of bother’. Optimism was renewed with a 5th wicket stand of 42 between Lucas Stephenson (29) and Tom Eagling (20), but with their departures and a ‘tail’ that didn’t ‘wag’, Londesborough were bowled out for 134 in the 42nd over, largely thanks to an excellent spell of bowling from Sam Graham (6-32).

An early wicket for James Beevers gave Londesborough a glimmer of hope but successive partnerships of 47 and 68 for Sutton’s 2nd and 3rd wickets involving John Hambly (20), Rob Gainer (62) and Aaron Blagg (22) seriously dented Londesborough’s earlier hopes, and Sutton comfortably reached their target in the 31st over of their reply. The pick of Londesborough’s bowlers was Joe Shingles with 3-3.

LPCC: 134-10 (James Beevers 37, Lucas Stephenson 29, Tom Eagling 20, Sam Graham 6-32)

Sutton: 135-5 (John Hambly 20, Rob Gainer 62, Aaron Blagg 22, Joe Shingles 3-34)
