Londesborough Park Cricket Club News story

Match Reports 28th August

Londesborough Park 1st XI came out on the right side of a high-scoring thriller at Hull Zingari on Saturday. Zingari batted first and got off to a good start, posting 76 runs before Jahangir Alam (50) fell. The second wicket came without the score changing, but Daniel Mould (43) and Fergus Wilkinson (69) settled into a rhythm and prevented Londesborough finding another breakthrough for some time. Londesborough saw success later in the innings when the home side faltered from 203-3 to 220-9, but they eventually saw the 50 overs out with 237 on the board. Wickets were shared between Joe Shingles (3-45), Martin Pearson (3-80), Ben Shingles (2-39) and James Beevers (1-34).

Londesborough’s run chase stalled early, losing the first wicket on 8. But James Beevers (49), joined by Tom Jennings (66), built a good partnership of 61 before James was run out agonisingly close to his 50. Martin Pearson (52) then came to the fray, building a significant partnership of 103 with Tom to take the score to 172-3. A flurry of wickets in the middle order looked like they may have scuppered Londesborough’s chances of victory but with the score on 211-9 Toby Williamson (13*) and Tom Williamson (13*) had different ideas as they produced a last wicket, unbroken partnership of 27 to see the Park to victory, and 30 points, with just four balls to spare.

Hull Zingari: 237-9 (Daniel Mould 43, Jahangir Alam 50, Fergus Wilkinson 69, Joe Shingles 3-45, Martin Pearson 3-80, Ben Shingles 2-39)

LPCC: 238-9 (James Beevers 49, Tom Jennings 66, Martin Pearson 52, Muhammad Ayub 5-59)

Londesborough Park second XI didn’t have such luck at home against Westow. Only Chris Roper got to double figures with the bat and the home side found themselves bowled out for a below par 75 in the 30th over. Wickets came from Alfred Stephenson (2-18), Archie Reid (3-17) and Alistair Fothergill (3-8).

Londesborough saw early success during Westow’s reply, as accurate bowling by Jack Sowersby bagged three wickets with only 10 runs conceded. Unfortunately, Chris Inman (42) and Jamie Smith produced a solid innings and secured victory for the visitors in the 18th over.

LPCC: 75-10 (Chris Roper 21, Alfred Stephenson 2-18, Archie Reid 3-17, Alistair Fothergill 3-8)

Westow: 77-3 (Chris Inman 42, Jack Sowersby 3-10)

The Wednesday night team had their victory gifted to them this week as Rufforth conceded, consolidating their fourth place in the table at the end of the season.

Londesborough Park would like to thank team sponsors Britcom International Ltd, Michael Roe Motor Engineer and The Paper Shop, and this week’s match ball sponsors Flower Merchant Sally May and Mrs & Mrs Appleyard.
