LPCC 2nd XI vs. Sessay 2nd XI
With only 3 games remaining, this week the Parks' 2nd XI travelled to the picturesque village of Sessay.
Yet again Williamson lost the toss, however skipper Tom was stuck in traffic around York, and so John strode confidently in his place but couldn't change the 2nd XI's fortunes. Park were invited to bat on a used "jigsaw" looking wicket. Park openers Williamson (J) and Shingles (B) started watchfully against the swinging ball. John then started to play a few shots, racing to 18 before mis-timing a drive to mid-off. Park suffered a mini collapse and were reduced to 56-5 at the 20 over mark. A decent partnership of 35 was ended when Harry Gamble was stumped for a well made 21. Michael Drewery had luck on his side, just placing the ball over the in-fielders head on a couple of occasions. Michael was then bowled by Wilkinson and started to head to the pavilion, as Pete Shingles filled in the scorebook he was surprised to see Michael returning to the crease, after the bowler had over stepped the front line, cue the tip-ex. He shouldn't have bothered as 2 overs later Wilkinson repeated the performance bowling Michael for 19. Ian Hodson kept the score moving at the end of the innings, but was unlucky to be run out by a direct hit. Park prematurely finishing their innings in the 42nd over, all out for 118.
After a tea that wouldn't have been out of place at Londesborough, Park set about trying to defend a below par total. It started well as Joe Shingles removed both openers for single figures. This however brought opposition skipper Wass to the crease. Wass played confidently striking the ball around the ground, scoring quickly. Flintoff (not that one) joined Wass at the crease after the run-out of Wilkinson and the pair put on 42 to take the score to 92. Park turned back to pace bowling, after Lucas Stephenson and Tom Williamson shared 12 overs between them. Michael Drewery making an almost instant impact, bowling Flintoff. Wass was still at the crease and reached 68 before Joe returned and had him caught behind with the game almost over. There was time for another wicket for Michael as Park dreamed of a LPCC esq. collapse. Sessay reached the target for the loss of 6 wickets, Wass scoring the majority of the runs. Joe Shingles finishing with figures of 3-16 from 9 overs.
Park were not helped by the news that York conceded to fellow relegation candidates Malton, Park still have an outside chance of avoiding the drop but will need to win their last 2 games. The last of which is at Malton.
